General Remodeling
$10,000
The company changed its name to GLC-LA and moved to Sherman Oaks. The salesman/project manager, Vinnie, came out and promised the world's best remodeling job, quick and professional and up to city code.  It was a nightmare.  The 10 day job took two months!  After the first week only one workman showed up on most days and he only worked a couple of hours.  The walls were crocked, the floor squeaked, and they tried to use a sprayer to paint my walls.  Worst yet, my husband came home and caught them putting up the drywall without installing the R-13 insulation Vinnie promised.  I called him and he said he "personally watched the guys put the insulation in the walls. After days of complaining we final got him to show up and open up the wall. Guess what?  There was no insulation! Vinnie was never there to watch the workers. He only showed up to collect the next payment. Four days after they "finished" the new banister cracked in two places due to improper installation.  It took a month for them to send a repairman and he had to take it back to his shop to repair it properly.  Don't waste your money on this company.

They took way too long. They tented the house incorrectly and ruined the ceilings. They burnt a hole in the floor with a work lamp. They painted a door red that was supposed to be white. When they tore out the back deck they left the refuse sit for 7 months. The same worker that did roof, concrete, plumbing, etc. everything. I think this is why it took forever. It just took forever, around 14 to 15 months. I was just really disappointed and thought it took ridiculously long. The results were nice, but the process was terrible.

At first they didn't seem to have anything negative. When we hired them some new reports came out, and we were not happy with their service. We had a very difficult working relationship with them. Things were promised that did not happen. We ended up having to supervise them ourselves. They used subcontractors even though they should not. They changed the scope of the work. Their pricing did not go well with the work they did. If anyone engages this company, they should be specific with them about whom they are going to deal with and who are going to be responsible.

THEY WERE NOT PROFESSIONAL. THEY SAID ONE THING AND CHARGED FOR ANOTHER. THEY WERE VERY SNEAKY AND DEVIOUS ABOUT CONDUCTING BUSINESS. IF SOMETHING WAS WRONG, THEY BLAMED THE CLIENT INSTEAD OF THEIR SERVICEMEN.
Response from GLC-LA
"OUR RESPONSE TO THE MEMBER AND HER ACCUSATIONS IS AS FOLLOWS: WE COMPLETED THE JOB AS PER THE CONTRACT, THE JOB WAS FINISHED AND RESOLVED AMICABLY, THE CLIENT AT THE TIME OF THE JOB CLOSE SIGNED A SATISFACTORY COMPLETION REPORT. WITH THAT SAID, THERE WERE SOME ISSUES THAT DID COME UP WITH THIS PARTICULAR JOB, BUT NONE OF THOSE INVOLVED "SNEAKINESS" OR "DECEIT" ON OUR PART AND ALL OF THE ISSUES WERE RESOLVED, AS MENTIONED ABOVE. GREAT LAKES PRIDES ITSELF ON IT'S PROFESSIONALISM AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. THE COMPANY HAS A AAA RATING WITH THE BBB (IT'S HIGHEST RATING) AND HAS 100'S OF VERY HAPPY CLIENTS, AS ANOTHER CLIENT OF ANGIE'S LIST MENTIONS BELOW,. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS CLIENT APPEARS TO NOT HAVE BEEN FULLY SATISFIED. IF THE MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM HER AND AS ALWAYS ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO MEET AT HER LOCATION AND PROVIDE HER WITH ANOTHER FREE CONSULTATION."
