The work was generally finished, although there were details left unfinished and a promise was made to return and polish things and that did not happen. The owner used a "site manager" arrangement and the site manager did not check the work. He told me that he would fix anything that I told him needed to be fixed, but there were things that were obviously not as they should have been and it was left up to me to say something. I had to speak-up multiple times about things that were clearly wrong. This included but is not limited to my bathtub being installed backwards; scratched, scored & chipped tile being installed; tile installed in a messy manner; a bathroom light-fixture installed waaaay off-center; bolts left sticking up out of the ground, walls not finished nicely, etc. Some of these things were fixed, but not all. A wall that was installed is crooked and I didn't say anything about this until the end; however, I felt like they thought I was some kind of a troublesome whiner by then. I received an original bid which included labor for the bathroom, washer & dryer installation, two bathroom doors and moving the electrical box. When it was decided that moving the box wasn't possible, no adjustment was allowed. The toilet, sink, tub and other fixtures were provided by me and not included in the bid price. There were two change orders and I did not ask for them in writing ahead either time and was surprised how much I was charged each time. On the first change order, I was surprised that I was charged $1,200 for a douglas fir and laminated glass door that can be found for a few hundred at a home center. In addition, I was surprised that I was charged $1,800 to add more tile to the bathroom. It seemed like too much for the amount of work involved. I had also requested a door for a closet and they brought a completely different kind of door and, although I repeatedly asked that a matching door to be provided, it was never accomplished. Last spring, the owner came and took the wrong door and left it on the curb, stating that he'd be back to fix/finish some details and that the correct door would be provided. I waited until summer for them to return and called again. Then I was told that he'd never promised to return and that everything had been finished and that I had requested a multiple panel door rather than a d/g & lami glass door and that the closet door was part of the original contract. In addition, I had asked that, when they returned to handle those things, they also fix my bathroom sink that was falling off the wall and I received an email telling me that it was installed per the ZOLI directions and into a stud (when it was clearly not). Although I provided a photo, there was no response and I finally had it removed and am without a bathroom sink. The owner told me that he'd given me a $2,000 adjustment and although I repeatedly requested an updated invoice, none has been received or a copy of my permit card that I have also requested.
