 + -1 moreThe original contract was based on prices that had originally been quoted to another owner and were 2 years old. Over 40% of the pricing was "allowances" which means that the prices can change drastically and they did. The house was supposed to take a year and it took over 18 months-when we finally asked them to stop. The prices were often inflated and we were charged more than the sub-contractors had charged them. We also asked to see quotes and pricing and this was denied. The entire build was a nightmare from beginning to end. With over-budget pricing, badly installed windows and doors we have it all. The case is in litigation which has also been delayed by Tavares Development at every turn. It has taken almost 2 years to finally get subpoenas to see the actual sub-contractor bills, something that was due us at the build time! These people are dis-honest and were incredibly hard to work with. Wish us luck with the lawsuit! Do NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE!
Description of Work: Tavares Development provided a quote for new home construction in a seaside community. Their quote was the lowest but they had one good reference in our area that belonged to the homeowners association President. We hired them in February '03. The house was completed (we kicked them out) in June of 2004. Later we discovered that their contract was written based on prices two years old and had limitations on warranty times, etc that conflicted with California Construction law.
