Cal Spec Builders

We went through Friedmans appliance in Long Beach and worked with designer Delia and she suggested Cal Spec Builders. The cost is the total we paid for the design, appliances, and work done by Cal Spec Builders. We worked with owner Tommy and forman Billy. Once the work started I talked to Billy almost every day and when I called him, he always answered or called me right back. We put this remodel off for years because of the mess and inconvenience we had with our family room addition. We were pleasantly surprised when they completely sealed off the kitchen from the rest of the house and covered everything in the living room and the floor to the outside of the house. Cal Spec Builders was great to work with. Tommy, Billy and their crew were friendly and respectful, always trying to make the process as painless as possible. The job was finished on time and we love our new kitchen. I would highly recommend Cal Spec Builders.

Tommy came over with Monica. And took some measurements. At this point let me say that Tommy is one of the nicest people I have I have ever met. He was back a few days later with a firm contract for us to sign or deny. There was no pressure at all. The contract spelled out every step and when monies would be due.It was excellently written with with the minimal amounts at first and increasing as the more intensive labor was done. Every step was spelled out..It was a little more than the others but we went with Cal Spec..this price was for labor plumbing and electrical only. Tommy called and told me when they would start and the expected finish date. His crew led by Billy showed every day at 7:00 am sharp. The first day they gutted the kitchen and in the next seven weeks I was told the night before what was to be done the next day. They installed copper plumbing in the kitchen. Then they had to pull all the electrical over to the other side of the house because So.Cal Edison did not like where the original box was placed when the house was built. They took out five windows to be replaced with 1 window and beautiful French Doors going out to the back yard. They installed Omega Cabinets and lots of LED lighting. Billy is also very nice as is John and and the rest of the crew, plumber,electrician,tile man and plasterers. A they all come with smiles on their faces. They clean up major debris as needed, sometimes twice a day or more and every evening before they leave they clean and tidy up. Cal Spec is truly a professional company with the nicest people on the crew and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants beautiful quality work done.

I chose Tommy Cole, Cal Spec Builders, as my general contractor and I am very glad I did. Tommy and his crew are exactly what you would want in workers that you are going to be dealing with for several months. They are all punctual, efficient, professional, talented, and very courteous. They are true craftsmen. No reason for shouting matches. No lame excuses for not getting the work done on schedule, or done right. Tommy treated my residence as if it were his own home he was building. His attention to detail, his suggestions on finish carpentry, his care of the property - all were indications to me that he takes great pride in his work.
His choice of sub-contractors was excellent, and he coordinated them extremely well. The project was bid for 10 months construction and we came in right on time. Actually we would have been 2 months early if the city hadn't gotten into the mix and messed up our schedule.
I will not undertake such an extensive project again - not needed. But I know that when I need work on my other buildings, Tommy Cole and Cal Spec Builders are the contractors I will call!

To date, absolutely top notch.

Still in progress. I can evaluate the price versus quality of work performed when this is completed. But so far I am very pleased.

Very good job overall. The work was completed on time with high quality. The people on the job daily were highly knowledgable, capable and professional. When questions or concerns were raised, they were addressed in a complete and thorough manner and the owner, Tommy, would personally ensure that customer was satisfied, even if it meant additional work at his expense.

Tommy responded quickly to my call. He came out, looked at our bathroom and discussed what we had in mind and provided a quote quickly. His quote was more than we wanted to spend, so he worked with us to lower our costs. He also referred us to a former client, who had remodeled both her kitchen and later her bath, in a style similar to what I wanted. After hearing her glowing recommendations of Tommy and his crew, and visiting her home to see their work, we decided to go with Cal Spec.

This was the most pleasant remodeling experience ever and the best decision we could have made. We had previously added the master bedroom along with the problem bath and later remodeled our kitchen. Both went way over the estimated finish date including days no one showed up as scheduled.

The Cal Spec crew started day one by completely covering our floors and carpet and carefully sealing off our bedroom. The crew also carefully cleaned up after themselves every day before they left. Tommy assigned Billy to oversee our job. Either Billy or Tommy called at the end of every day to let us know who was coming the next day and what work was scheduled. All of the sub-contractors which included the plumber, electrician, and tile setters came as scheduled and were as neat and careful as Tommy's crew.

We ended up spending more than we intended however every time we use our new shower or I use my deep soaking tub, I am so happy we used Cal Spec.

After years of postponing it, my wife and I undertook our much-needed kitchen remodel at the start of 2010. Given the expense involved, we made a decision to become as educated as possible about the various aspects of the project. Early on we made an excellent connection with Kitchen and Bath Solutions (“Kand BS”) in Fountain Valley. They provided the design drawings. At our request, Kand BS identified contractors that they have worked with effectively to coordinate successful kitchen remodels. We pared down the list of 8 contractors to 3 and interviewed those companies. We were actually pleased with all 3 interviews but our conversations with Tommy Cole of Cal Spec Builders (formerly Celtic Woodcraft Design) stood out. Apart from having worked effectively with Kand BS in the past, Tommy Cole sold the quality of his team of employees and sub-contractors, their dedication and skills and their track record of pleasing customers. Unexpectedly, Cal Spec Builders list of customer references included the name of someone that I had worked with for many years. My wife and I followed up with this reference and she invited us to her home in Huntington Beach to see first-hand the work in progress that was taking place under the expert oversight of Cal Spec Builders. Our visit with this professional colleague sealed our decision to hire Cal Spec Builders as the general contractor to head our kitchen remodel. Our kitchen remodel involved a complete tear-down and rebuild of our kitchen – everything from city building permits, electrical (including new lighting) to plumbing, dry walling, cabinetry, flooring, countertop and backsplash tile to installing appliances was done in a little more than 7 weeks by Cal Spec Builders and their very conscientious team of employees and sub-contractors. Throughout the process, the on-site project supervisor kept my wife and I informed of what work was to take place on each up-coming work day. All of our questions were answered promptly and honestly and any tweaking that was requested was addressed right away. The Cal Spec Builder team and their sub-contractors worked efficiently and cleaned up at the end of each day to minimize dust and inconvenience to us, the homeowners. In doing our research ahead of the start of our kitchen remodel we heard and read about troubling experiences that some homeowners had working with contractors. We put our trust in the hands of Tommy Cole and his Cal Spec Builders team and they delivered a first-rate kitchen remodel. We are very pleased with the work product, the timeliness, the professionalism, the excellent communication and the integrity. We won’t hesitate to hire Cal Spec Builders again and we don’t hesitate to recommend them to homeowners in the OC area looking for an excellent general contractor who will coordinate and complete a high quality construction project. These are personable people who care and work hard to please.
