Home Warranty
After 79 days of fighting with First American and living in one room of my home through the Texas summer with no air conditioning except a single window unit, I gave up and decided to pay for central air repair myself. ~~~ Finally, today, August 18th, I have cool air! During this odyssey which began May 31st, I experienced first-hand how consumers are hurt by deceptive trade practices by a home warranty company. Sadly, I also learned how crooked HVAC contractors defraud consumers. ~~~ #1 Contractor sent by First American two years ago installed the wrong sized evaporator coil (and attempted to charge me $1,500.00 in non-covered charges). The coil failed after 2 years (instead of 10 years), which caused the need for #2 Contractor. ~~~ #2 Contractor sent by First American was sent to install a replacement evaporator coil (and charged me $1,065.00 in non-covered charges). #2 Contractor failed to do a pressure check which made the entire a/c system fail after 12 hours because it was low on Freon, thus causing a need for #3 Contractor to be sent out. ~~~ #3 Contractor sent by First American pointed out a leaking valve and faulty starter capacitor but after First American had his report, said it was hail damage and not covered by warranty. HAIL DAMAGE! I furnished the warranty company a National Weather Service hail report for the last 6 years, which showed that I had no hail within 6 miles of my home. ~~~ Then, First American wanted to send #4 Contractor. I told First American "NO MORE!" NONE of their contractors were to set foot on my property again; asking what #4 Contractor could possibly add. There was already an established need for a new condenser/compressor, which I paid for today. #askmeaboutmyhomewarrantyexperience #sowrong #compelledtospeakup
