Curt W.
Dec 2011
Excavation
They gave me a total estimate of $51,000. The first phase of the project was estimated to be $21,000. After one week, they were about 70% of the way done with the work estimated to be $21,000 and the bill was $29,400.
I confronted the owner, TJ, about it and he indicated it was just an estimate and estimates are inaccurate. I then asked him if the scope had changed relative to what was in the estimate and he indicated for all intents and purposes that it had not.
Secondly, they never indicated that they were going to sub-contract out the work. They sub-contracted the work to Ron Peters Excavation who did a fine job on the work they did but were way over on cost (no fault of theirs).
I asked them to come back with a fixed bid for the remaining work and it was in excess of their orginal bid for the whole project. I eventually hired another firm to replace him who indicated that he'd been on another job (septic excavation) where the exact same thing had happened with Able Engineering and he'd come in to clean up for them there too.
