If excellence is in the details, it is only fair and quite right to state that Sarah Barnard Design is excellent! The project, a 1912 Arts and Crafts home in the Olmsted District of Torrance, CA [FYI: childhood home of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner and celebrated American World War II hero. Think the book and movie, "Unbroken." The bungalow, in utter disrepair, was expertly and lovingly restored to its former glory by Sarah Barnard. Because of Sarah's creative genius, augmented by her outstanding work, I now live in the home of my dreams. A picture is worth a thousand words, hence, follow this link: [*** Link removed ***] where I proudly showed off my beautiful home in “Cottages and Homes” November 2010 issue. Sarah is a level-headed, conscientious interior designer who takes time to not only listen, but to hear and translate her client’s wants and needs. Sarah has an old-school work-ethic, she is brilliant, creative, talented and easy to work with. I highly recommend Sarah Barnard Design. As far as I’m concerned, you cannot do better!

Sarah Barnard understands how to respond to creative briefs and client requests. She is one of the most
organized designers. Although she does not do the project management associated with overseeing the contractors work, she
helps you prequalify your contractors and conducts the prequalification meetings with you.
She is extremely efficient with excellent time management skills. I never had to worry
about non-responsiveness from her whether through emails or returning phone calls.
She has a sophisticated sense of style and her design work mirrors her good taste. I would
recommend Sarah to anyone in the Los Angeles area that is looking for an experienced interior designer.

When I lived in New York City, I gut renovated two large apartments. In that case, I worked directly with the contractors and basically did the designs myself. I know a lot of people do that, especially in New York. Here, however, I didn't gut the first place I purchased. So when it came time to renovate, I took recommendations from friends.
I've renovated kitchens before. The first one, I stayed in the place while it was being done. Ugh. Mistake. The second one - I stayed with friends during the renovation and suffered through day after day, showing up to see that things were moving too slowly.
Leaving it all to Sarah during the process this time was a pleasure and a relief. She hired a trusted General Contractor and it was Sarah who inspected the work and kept it on schedule... at least from my perspective. She takes pride in her work and just simply takes charge so that the home owner doesn't have to.
This time, I cleared out for the demolition period, but Sarah insisted that I could move back in while most of the work was going on and that it would be fine. She said, "We're improving the quality of your life with this project... you don't have to suffer through the process. Sleep in your own bed." She was right. We came home from work every day, to a mostly dust free house and saw the changes increase every day... until the day Sarah greeted us to show off the finished product herself.
Sarah worked closely with the contractor and the vendors. She took care of everything, approved everything and when a product wasn't up to her standards she took charge and took care of it, without losing any time on the job. I will also say that the prep work that was done before construction and installation was stupendous. I know that's not her hand in it but she chose the contractors and saw that my house remained my house through the process.
