"While it is unfortunate to read the report from the owner, the details he provided the Angie's List rep are not accurate. The doors were indeed finished. Twice. The owner insisted my team use a wood sealer that he "made" himself. The mixture he made reacted poorly and the sealer bubbled, causing the finish to be unsightly. The first round of finishing was done and it looked bad; at no fault of my team. After the owner insisted it could not be the ratios in his custom "mix", but instead a bad batch of one the ingredients he purchased, he demanded that we sand off all of the sealer to the bare wood. Additionally, he did not pay for the sanding and re-finishing. When I brought up the considerable amount of additional work (3 more days of sanding alone), he responded with "well, I guess on some jobs you just don't make any money, huh?". Wow. In his response above, he says "he tried to raise the prices and had excuses about everything". My response to that is that we did the work twice because of his insistence that we use his "custom mix" sealer; it is reasonable to get paid to do the work twice. When he told me he would not pay me to do the work a second time, I had my crew do the work anyway. I didn't want to leave he and his wife without patio doors installed correctly. The job did indeed take additional time as we had to do the refinishing all over again. I'm not sure how it could be any other way? In short, I absolutely did complete the job. I stained & sealed, then sanded, re-stained, re-sealed, and installed his new patio doors. I even ate the additional cost for the second re-finishing. Finally, I followed up 3 months after the final install (as I do with all my clients) to check in and make sure everything was working correctly and to his satisfaction. He said there was nothing else for me to do; and then hung up on me. Sadly, making a sincere effort to follow-up is not well received by everyone. I wish the owner and his wife the best of luck.
