I called Bill to fix a sliding glass door lock for a rental property. I'd had handymen fix the lock on two separate occasions - it would last a week and break again.   I was going out of town for an extended period at the time, with no phone or email access while gone, so I asked him to work with the tenant to arrange a time.  I described the issue and we agreed to cap on cost based on his assessment of my verbal description of the problem.

Bill initiated getting in touch with the tenant while I was gone, diagnosing the problem and, because it required parts that he didn't have with him, getting back in touch with the tenant to come back and complete the job.  All of this was done within a matter of 2 days, without me or the tenant having to follow up.   The door is now working beautifully.

Bill left a detailed message on my voicemail describing the issue and the resolution, followed up with similar detail in his bill and came in right within the budget that we'd agreed to.

I will use him again in a heartbeat.  Honest, professional, responsible, reliable and competent.  Can't ask for much more.

Bill was very communicative, personable, and professional.  He was very clear about scheduling, arrived on time, and completed the work expertly.  Added bonus in his explaining what was broken and how it was fixed; I learned how the locks worked.  He was upfront about crawl space lock he could not access for repair without significant expense due to poor construction choice from another contractor and offered low cost solution.  Very happy with Bill's work!

"Yes, I was late. I had misremembered, thinking the appointment was for 5:00 PM. I was running late, so at 4:30 I thought I’d better give her a call and let her know that I would be arriving about 5:30. I pulled out my paperwork to get her phone number and saw that I was supposed to be there at 4, not 5. I called immediately, explained my error, and offered that while I can’t undo the mistake, I understood that her time also had value, so I eliminated the $70.00 service call fee because being late is not good service. While I can’t guarantee that I will never make a mistake, and I realize that not all mistakes can be undone, I do stand behind the quality of my work and my word. If I can’t fix it, I’ll do my best to alleviate the sting and remove the bitter taste left behind. Again, my sincere apologies. Bill Walter"

Our house will soon be 90 years old, and the interior door knob mechanisms had become faulty.  It was difficult to close a door and have it stay shut. And then we found Bill, who was exactly the right person for this job.  He is experienced, methodical, knowledgeable, logical, calm, positive, tidy, dependable, and an all around pleasure to deal with.  He assessed the situations (because there were a number of problems), figured out what was needed, ordered very specific replacement parts, and made all the problems go away.  The price was absolutely reasonable, and I would recommend Bill to anyone and everyone who needs help with their locks and wantsto deal with an exceptional person.

Great service and advice for home lock installation. Moved into new house and needed quick service. Very professional. Does not try and upsell. Talked me out of unnecessary installation in one instance. Would call/use again.

"I’m not sure that this review is intended for me. I broke my hand on January 8th and didn’t start back to work until February 10th, so I know I wasn’t working on January 24th. I did however do some work for this customer 7 ½ months earlier, but I’m pretty sure this review isn’t for that. But just to be sure, I looked up the all details of that job, and this is what I found: I was first contacted May 6th 2013 to see about installing the customers Schlage Electronic Digital lock into the back gate at his home. I met with him the next day only to find that the gate was too thick for the lock. I told him I’d have to do some research to find a solution. First I contacted Schlage only to find out they make “thick door kits” ONLY for their commercial locks, NOT their residential locks. I ended up having to design a “thick door kit” and had a machine shop build 10 of them for me. By buying ten, I can get them down to a reasonable price although I run the risk of never recouping my investment. I received the custom made parts and scheduled an appointment for June 6th, 2013 at 9:30 AM. I was told to meet him on the street behind his home at the back gate because that would be the easiest access. My cell phone billing records show that I called at 9:26 AM to let him know that I had arrived. The custom made kit worked perfectly and I billed the following: $30 to modify the lock AND install it into the gate. $60 for the custom designed and machined “Thick Door Kit”, and $60 for the service call which included the original trip and the time to evaluate the situation, and the second trip to actually install the unit plus billing and paperwork time. My total charge was $150.00 plus state sales tax on the parts. I feel that this was an EXTREMELY good deal for my client."

Bill arrived on time. Quickly explained what steps needed to occur and got right to work. He continually provided updates on the progress and gave me a little education on how locks work. He even noticed that my main door lock was a little sticky and fixed it at no charge. I was impressed with his friendliness and professionalism and would not hesitate to have him back in the future

Bill has installed or repaired locks at my home twice.  He is reachable, on time (or if he is held up on another job, he always calls)
skilled, creative and so very pleasant.
He is the best!

It went well, good job, just too expensive for what he did. He called me and asked how much I would pay if I felt his rate was too high. I gave him a price and he sent me a check for the difference. He really went above and beyond to make me happy as a customer. He really stands behind his work.

"This being my very first review of less than straight A’s on the internet, I feel compelled to respond. This was three months ago. Fortunately I keep pretty good records. I’ll address each issue separately from better to worst. Responsiveness: “B” I was contacted by an email sent on July 1st at 9:58pm asking me to call the following morning. I called in the morning, they were going out of town and needed the work completed that night. My normal work hours are from 8am-6pm. I squeezed them in at the end of my day at 6:00pm at my normal rate. Punctuality: “C” I feel that asking a client to remain home between the hours of 1pm and 5pm is awful. I set my appointments at a specific time. While I don’t remember the specifics of this job, my cell phone records show that I called her number at 5:47pm. If I’m on time, I generally don’t call so I was probably running a little late. Price: “D” The invoice was for $90.00. I charged $60 for the service call which includes time to drive (at 5:30pm it probably took 40 minutes), park (often impossible) and do the paperwork. I charged $30 dollars for the actual repair of the lock. When dealing with a loose lock like hers, first I take the lock apart to make sure it is assembled properly and operating correctly because often it’s not. I make sure everything is properly lubricated, and then I put it all back together in the door and check for free operation as I tighten each part. I spoke with this client today and hopefully addressed all of her concerns. Bill Walter"

It's a pleasure to watch a professional do his job.  My front door handle was flopping around and not engaging, and I couldn't really tighten it up any more myself.  Bill showed up on time.  And he could have sold me pretty much anything in the nature of an entire new mechanism, but instead he fixed what was already in place.  Terrific.

Bill came out our new town home  to rekey the front door and install some new handles and a keypad lock almost a year ago.
For some reason or the other I never got around to writing a review but want to finally do so now since we were so happy with his service!
Bill was very reliable and easy to get a hold of on the phone. He was punctual and professional when he came to our house.  And although he ran into a few problems with our 50 year old hardware and had to stay longer than anticipated, he charged us the quoted price and did an amazing job. I will definitely call Bill again in the future but i don't think we'll have any issues with the locks he installed...

Great!   I called Bill and he came out within an hour and a half.  His prices are listed on his website (I like the transparency), and he kindly only charged me for normal business hours even though he came at 8pm.  He was helpful, honest, and informative.  This is the second time we've called Bill and we'll definitely use him again.

Bill was simply fantastic! We purchased a condo and needed to re-key or replace the front door lock. The lock was in a bad shape that I couldn't even open it without struggle. But when I took the picture to a locksmith store, I was told there is no way I can buy a new lock to replace it on my own since it was a 30-year old lock and they stopped making it, and the configuration of the holes is not compatible with one lock and one dead-bolt. I could take it off by myself and take it to the store to repair, but will have to leave the condo unlocked for a whole day, which is not realistic in my situation. Or I'll have to pay $100 service call for them to come out to fix it or replace it with a new wrap-around plate and new locks, plus a very steep hourly labor charge. Bill's website clearly listed all the service charges in flat rates and was the most competitive we saw. So we decided to schedule a service call with Bill.  It was a bit hard to get to him through phone initially (later we understand why so and totally reasonable) since he was all booked up during the day. But he left message letting callers know that he would be available after 9:30pm. So I called at 10pm and got through easily. Then I discussed with Bill on the phone for over 30min, exchanged several rounds of emails with the pictures/measurements, and Bill proposed that it's the safest that he come out to take a measurement of my door and existing lock holes, so he can get the correct parts if he needs to replace the locks. He also gave me a detailed list of all of the potential charges and made suggestions of new locks with reasonable quality/price. The price tag seemed to be quite steep due to the amount of work required.  But he said he will not charge us for the extra trip and there will only be one service call charge since it was considered one job. The next day, Bill arrived on time, took apart the old lock and made all the required measurements and wrote down the proper parts for replacing it with new locks. But this was not it, he also pointed out that my current lock was actually of very high quality that a new equivalent would be at least a couple of hundred bucks, but if I was OK with the current look of the lock (not quite stylish), he could try to fix the old lock as much as he can, he would have to charge me $50 for the repair, but if I'm not happy with the repair and want to go with the replacement later, he could also come out again without additional charge to do it, and he will subtract the repair cost from the final charge so the repair won't cost me extra. So there is nothing to loose for me. And He really did it. Now the lock works like new, and he also re-keyed the lock for only $10 with free keys! The final charge came out much lower than we expected and with the best result. And Bill spent nearly 2 hours on this entire job! And he also patiently showed me how to use this ancient lock properly so I don't hate it as much as I did initially. I will absolutely recommend Bill to anyone in the future!

Bill was great from start to finish. He returned my call right away, set up an appointment and showed up right on time. He carries all kinds of tools and parts in his truck so he didn't have to run off and get something like so many workers do. My locks were over 20 years old and were not working properly. I had a handyman try to fix them, but he couldn't figure out how to take them off. Bill had heard of my brand of lock (which is no longer made) but had never worked on one before. But that did not deter him. He was very patient and very resourceful in figuring out how to take these tricky locks off and told me they were good locks and could be fixed. I was very appreciative he did this instead of just telling me I needed to replace them. He worked on them over two hours and they work better than they ever have and I think his fee was very reasonable. Plus he replaced an old strike so the door would close better. If you need a locksmith, I highly recommend Bill. I feel he is very competent, very honest and very fairly priced. Plus he's a very nice, friendly guy. What more could you ask for!

One of the locks on my front door stopped locking - you could push open the door.  I also was looking to be able to have a key that I could give to a contractor/house cleaner that would only work on one lock so that I could lock the door with my key and not let the other key work.
Bill provided me with a great solution for my challenge and also fixed the door lock.  He was professional and explained to  me the options.  His prices were reasonable and I would definitely work with him again in the future.
