They were very efficient and compassionate and did everything they could to help my cat. Under their care he improved and was able to go home, beating the odds. The facility was incredibly clean and everyone there was so open to me, allowing me to go in the back just to spend time with my cat. I would, without hesitation, take a pet there for emergency care again. The cost was quite high but for what was done it was reasonable.

My cat Buddy suddenly became paralyzed in the back end. I rushed him to the Orcutt hospital where they took him in and began working on him befor I even filled out paperwork. He was very ill, had passed a blood clot. They told me his chances were not good but there was a small percentage that pulled thru. I gave him that chance. Unfortunately he only lived a few more weeks but their care was superb and it was evident that they really cared about my cat. There were follow up calls by doctors as well as the technicians and re were responses to my Facebook posts about Buddy's progress. I would not hesitate to use their services again. I gave a B for cost because it was so very expensive but for all that was done I think the price was reasonable.

"Thank you for your feedback. We always appreciate the opportunity to receive information that helps us improve our service, and we take that feedback seriously. Since your review pertains to a mass removal surgery that was performed over three years ago, we pulled your chart and reacquainted ourselves with the circumstances of the surgery. Removal of the mass was important for the well-being of your companion, but the size of the mass and the large space it left behind beneath the skin resulted in temporary drainage from the drainage site we established during the procedure that we know was both inconvenient and somewhat messy. It appears this was more upsetting for you than we were aware of at the time, and we sincerely apologize for that. According to our records of your follow-up visits, everything ultimately healed well and your companion is hopefully enjoying good health once again, and that is the most important thing to us. Our doctors and veterinary team of professionals want nothing more than to restore good health to the dogs and cats of our community, and we are all very passionate about what we do."

It is a 300 mile drive whenever they need a check up. They are the best vet I have every use. I have taken over 9 dogs there over the years, and they are the best that I have ever used. They also board the dogs, and check on them all the time, they keep up with the latest, they have always treated my guys with compassion, and I have had to put several of them down. I have never had problems.

We are new to the area and needed a vet for our dog. I drove around to some of the neighborhood vets and picked this one to schedule an appt. because I saw the office is clean and pleasant. We were seen on time. The vet spent time reviewing our dog's history. Our dog is older with some immune issues and I felt the doctor listened to my concerns and has a balanced individualized approach.

Appt was scheduled for a rabies shot as part of a puppy package. The lady working at the front desk was unfriendly, pre-occupied, and 'short' with me at the beginning as well as the end of the appt. We waited 15 minutes to be taken to a room (I didn't complain). The tech who weighed the pup was friendly. We waited another 15 minutes or so for someone else to come in to ask questions, take temp, etc. The doc entered another 10+ minutes later; very friendly and discussed possible future appt's for the pup (sterilization). Almost an hour and half later at this point, we had the shot (doc trimmed pup's nails too) and were ready to leave. On the way out, stopped by the lady at the front desk. She made it clear that although I had a right to the info from pup's earlier appt's, she had too much to do to accommodate me right then and turned to walk away from me. I asked if she could mail it when she had a chance. The request didn't please her. When speaking to the tech a few days later, I asked once again if someone could send the notes on pup's appt. Two weeks later, still haven't heard back. I rated this vet low mainly because the long wait (there was only one other person there when I arrived and no one in the waiting room when I left), as well as the non-friendly demeanor of the front desk lady. A friendlier front desk person would make for a happier experience for customers. Appt was scheduled for a rabies shot as part of a puppy package. "In researching this review, it turns out we had not one but two critical animal emergencies we were actively engaged with in the back of the hospital. When this occurs, not only does this result in delays in attending to our regular appointments, but it also affects the stress levels of all team members as we fight to save lives while also trying to be attentive and responsive to our regular clients and patients. This is usually not obvious to someone in the waiting room, so we endeavor to keep our clients informed about such matters as delays while maintaining the confidentiality of clients who are here with emergencies. We sincerely regret if the reason for this delay, or the reason for the resulting tension in the staff, was not communicated adequately. Hopefully the friendliness, courtesy and professionalism of the veterinarian, which is of course the primary reason for choosing a veterinarian for most people, helped to mitigate somewhat in this difficult situation."

Dog went in for dental cleaning and I asked that a lump be checked out and removed if necessary.
Vet did not get the message from the receptionist that I said the lump could be removed if necessary - nor did she get the information as to the exact location of the lump.
Instead, the vet aspirated the lump - after finding it herself.
Unfortunately, the aspiration results were inconclusive so my dog had to be put under again to remove the lump.
Fortunately, the lump was benign.
Vet listened to my frustrations over having to bring the dog back for the lump removal when I had approved removal the first time and a nominal credit was given to my account as a financial resolution. Vet also used the situation to train the front desk to listen better to customers.
Because of the communication issues with the front office staff and the financial credit only being nominal instead of the actual costs I incurred necessarily, I gave an overall score of B and a score of C for pricing.
Sometimes mistakes happen and I would go back to this vet because of the way she handled the mistakes, which were out of her hands.

Took our puppy in for a cough. Took an hour in office, lots of waiting. Vet spent 5 minutes. Seemed expensive for meds and short service, no recommendations re:when next shots are due, etc.
Response from Orcutt Veterinary Hospital
"We appreciate the feedback and are glad that the overall experience was generally positive. We endeavor to keep to our schedule as closely as possible, and we do not double book or overbook, so typical wait times normally don't exceed 10-20 minutes. We end up with emergencies and major work-ups from time to time that can derail the schedule and result in longer wait times, but people are generally understanding when that happens. We always recommend the best course of treatment possible, but if an owner expresses a need for less expensive treatment we do our best to work with them to modify the plan. We are also happy to answer any questions the client may have, such as a recommendation for future vaccinations, etc."
