I originally gave this company 5 stars on Home Advisor back in December 2010. However, they do not back up their 4 year guarantee on quality of workmanship, just blame it on the weather here in Huntington Beach. We suggest you find a company that backs up what they say and advertise and follows through with the true meaning of "customer service". Owner offered to repair and repaint areas done 3 1/2 years ago for a nominal fee.

The whole crew was amazing. They worked hard, stayed late, cleaned up and offered great service! Sam, the owner, was professional, knowledgable and a great personality.

The owner got back to us within a day of emailing him. However, he made a big deal of our not giving our last names for the quote -even though he was coming to our house - and he hung up on us. He called back a few days later but by then, we had found someone else from Angie's list whom have have contracted with to begin the painting project as described, above, in two weeks.

We chose three companies for estimates. Two were from Angie's List. Following one of the estimates, we discovered that one of the companies from Angie's List turned out to be a different company than the List's because the telephone number on the List was not the company on the List, so that one was the first to be eliminated. We decided to go with Sam Coffey, Unique Coatings, because he is fully licensed and bonded to do the work he is licensed to do, and after reading Angie's List's article on licensed, bonded contractors, we felt more comfortable with a licensed, bonded contractor. Even though Mr. Coffey's company is new, he uses very experienced, hard-working professionals to get the job done on schedule and with the highest quality. There is no skimping. They are perfectionists. The work was to be completed in four to five days, and it was completed in four days. They left no mess; cleaned up everything, Our house was built in 1954 and now looks like a much newer house. It is wonderful, and the paint should last for many years.

Sam was very responsive everytime I dealt with him. He returned my initial phone call within the hour, and arrived exactly when he said he would. By mistake, I had told him there were 4 beams when there were actually only 2 and he usually does not take jobs under $250 dollars, but he cut the price down and agreed to do the work for us, for which I was grateful. He recommended a better white (Swiss coffee) than I had thought of and quickly got the work done. I would use him again.

Prescreened by Service Magic ensuring proper licensure, insurance, financial-legal history and identity information, I selected Unique Coatings. Sam Coffey was timely on all his appointments and quickly reachable via cell-phone. The on-site painting crew were employed by the company. Sam provided overall over-site of the crew. We interviewed three contractors and found Sam’s bid to be consistent with the others. A list of local references was supplied and my husband and I visited two client’s homes that were pleased with Sam’s work. The estimate was written, work detailed and a reasonable timeframe were given as necessary to do the job. All paint was to be Dunn Edwards with both spray and brush to complete the exterior painting. The crew power-washed the exterior of the house and trenched where necessary. They repaired cracks and holes. Windows and other immovable objects were covered prior to painting. They arrived with all the necessary tools and equipment, were courteous and responsive to my requests. When needed, I found I could reach Sam by his cell-phone for answers to my concerns fairly quickly. Pablo, the foreman, was in charge each painting day and also very responsive to my questions and requests. They were neat and cleaned up after themselves each day before leaving. Sam arrived as each part of the job was done to do an inspection and would correct any deficiency noted. I provided an initial payment of 10%, followed by a progressive payment of 35% and a final payment of the balance after Sam’s final inspection of the work. Sam provided a list and cans of paint used. I am now on Sam’s reference list and have already recommended him to a potential client this weekend (3/1/9). Phyllis Segal
