Tai Boutell of Santa Cruz Home Mortgage is a mortgage banker and was referred to us by our real estate agent. He was friendly, understood our needs, and made the transactions easy by working on line with us, minimizing trips to the office. Our first opportunity fell through, and we changed real estate agents by the time we settled on the house for which we obtained the mortgage. Tai continued to work with us until we had a low cost mortgage that fit our financial needs. He handled the occassional surprise (like credit lines from our old business that didn't show up on our report) with good humor and excellent advise. There were no hidden fees, and I believe his compensation for originating the loan was reasonable. The timeline on the loan was tight, and everything came off smoothly and on time.
What I liked best was the after loan experience. Tai contacted me approximately 6 months later to remind me that I still had tax returns in his office that I hadn't picked up which he could have just placed in my file. At tax time, he sent a copy of my HUD-1 as a courtesy in case I couldn't find my original - a nice touch.
