This is what he was hired to do. Larry Favor was offered the bid because he came in under $14,000 bid compared to the other 3 contractors. The reality was, two weeks before construction was scheduled to begin, he submitted a revised bid for over $17,000 higher than the initial bid. I decided to proceed because I had been waiting for over 8 months for the permits and I was tired of waiting. In addition, a coworker had recommended him and was pleased with the work he had done at her place. As the work began, it became apparent that he purposely under bid every aspect of the job. For example, the utility trenching-which includes water, gas, electric, telephone and cable connection, ended up costing me $8000.00. His bid was $800.00. Another example, he underbid the plumbing work. The original bid was $9,140 and I paid well over $14,000. The bid indicated that the fireplace was supposed to be rough framed and installed, and he did not complete this portion of the job at all. He quoted me $10,500 ,and I am the one that had to hire someone to install the fireplace and complete the rough framing. When I asked him for a refund of the money that I spent, he has ignored my request and has since ignored my request. Since Larry Favor, clearly manipulated the numbers to make the initial more appealing, I decided to fire him after the rough framing was done and some other work which his crew did. I have decided to seek the assistance from local carpenters and complete the ADU on my own. Larry Favor has been in business for over 25 years and I am dumbfounded that he was so professionally careless with his bid and his complete lack of detail. His statements were very vague and the wording was unclear. I never received a detailed break down of what I was paying for, but I obviously paid much more than was agreed upon. How can someone with so many years of experience forget to put fire sprinklers on the initial bid. He knows the codes, he knows was is required based on the current laws of construction and the excuse that "this or that" must have been overlooked is unacceptable!. I would never hire Larry Favor again, and I will let everyone know who wants to listen know that he is a crook.
