The telephone operator was polite and professional and gave us an estimate for the service over the phone.
She set us up with an appointment for the next day.
The repairman showed up within the time frame we were given.
He was professional and friendly and demonstrated a firm knowledge of the skills necessary to complete the repair.
The bill for the repair was the same as we were given by the phone operator.

After all the information gathering, I began to get pricing information. Home Depot wanted to charge for someone to come out and give us an estimate. I refused that offer but did get an estimated price from them. We had the people sent out by Costco, and 2 local providers come out to give us estimates. All three quoted the same door and type of garage door opener.
Bay Area Overhead Door gave us the most competitive pricing. The information on Angie's list did not help much as most contacts were for repairs, not new installations. We went with Bay Area Overhead Door and the installation occurred about 10 days after I signed the contract. It went fine with one workman taking 6 hours to remove the old door, tracks, and opener and install the new one.
"THE CUSTOMER ASKED US TO ASSIST THEM IN HAVING THE JAMBS REPLACED BY ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. IN ORDER TO DO THIS WE SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO REMOVE THE TRACKS WHILE THEIR CONTRACTOR REPLACED THE JAMBS, & THEN REINSTALL. WE ALSO EXPLAINED OUR FEE, WHICH IS A MINIMUM $75 FOR THE 1ST HALF HOUR + $75 AN HOUR THEREAFTER. THE CUSTOMER KNEW WE COULD NOT GIVE A FIRM QUOTE OVER THE PHONE; WE WOULD NEED TO SEE THE JOB 1ST. OUR SERVICEMAN ARRIVED AS SCHEDULED, BUT THE CONTRACTOR WAS NOT THERE. HE GAVE THE CUSTOMER A FIRM QUOTE OF $150 TO REMOVE EACH TRACK TO ALLOW THE CONTRACTOR TO REMOVE THE OLD JAMB AND REPLACE IT, THEN REINSTALL THE TRACK TO THE NEW JAMB. OUR SERVICEMAN WAITED, CALLED OUR OFFICE TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CONTRACTOR NEVER ARRIVED. THE CUSTOMER ASKED IF WE COULD JUST TAKE THE ENTIRE DOOR DOWN, SINCE THE CONTRACTOR WAS NOT THERE. AFTER CHECKING AGAIN WITH OUR OFFICE, OUR SERVICEMAN EXPLAINED THAT WOULD TAKE MORE TIME AND WE WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE THEM ACCORDINGLY. THE CUSTOMER TRIED SEVERAL MORE TIMES TO REACH THE CONTRACTOR, BUT WAS UNABLE. THE SERVICEMAN WAITED FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. THE CONTRACTOR NEVER SHOWED UP, SO THE SERVICEMAN COULD NOT PERFORM ANY WORK. THE CUSTOMER PAID THE MINIMUM SERVICE CHARGE OF $75. WHILE WE UNDERSTAND THE CUSTOMER’S FRUSTRATION WITH NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE JOB DONE AS SCHEDULED, THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY DUE TO THE ACTIONS OF OUR COMPANY. IF THEY WANT TO POST A NEGATIVE REPORT, IT SHOULD BE IN REFERENCE TO THEIR CONTRACTOR, NOT US."
