In contacting the company on their main contact number and describing my needs, they routed me to the correct person for an estimate. He and I have been in contact via voicemail and direct communication and spoke of scheduling a specific date. He said he would give me the schedule for that day, but no one showed up. I provided a lot of information to him about the job, how many flights of stairs they would have to go up, that the job would require two people, and my contact information. He continued to call me and say that he doesn't have enough information from me. I had to leave another message asking him to call back, so I could give it to him. I left another message giving him the necessary information a second time.

The information didn't get passed along to the people to get the job scheduled. No one called to let me know if anyone was on their way or that they weren't coming. Many of my voicemails have been unreturned. I learned later that he passes the information along to someone else, so it must have fallen through the cracks. It took a while to get the job scheduled, and after about 10 calls, they sent one person out to do the job instead of two as I requested. Now I have to re-schedule for another day.

The couch needs taken away because it is infested with bed bugs. The bed bug treatment has been taken care of with the exception of the couch, and now the company who did the treatment has to come back to confirm the service is completed. They can't confirm the treatment as completed until the couch is removed. By Alliance not following through on the service date, I have additional costs with the treatment company because I have to have them come back out for an additional inspection.

Alliance has heard my issues, and they still want me to talk to the original person I have been in contact with since he is the main contact. I do not feel he is trustworthy or has the ability to communicate effectively and get the work scheduled. The customer service has not been up to par. I have had a very terrible experience overall with them.

Would never use this company ever again. They are not to be trusted.

I hired Alliance Environmental Group, Inc. (Lic #716538), based in Santa Clara to perform the abatement (removal of our asbestos heating ducts including register boots) and they performed the job on Nov. 24, 2013 (Thanksgiving week). I spoke to the salesperson prior to work commencement to verify how work will be performed and explained that my husband has lung issues so I wanted to make sure that asbestos removal will be performed using proper technique to prevent any asbestos from entering our home. The salesperson assured me that the workers will be using plastic containment around the registers, that they will use water to wet the asbestos to prevent asbestos from coming out, and that they will be careful when removing the asbestos.  She also stated that the foreman will be present during the work. Three workers came to our house and I again let them know that my husband has a severe lung condition and I told them that they had to be careful when removing the asbestos from the registers and in the attic. I found out later that none of them was the foreman. My husband who was on oxygen met the workers and I introduced him to the workers and reiterated again to the workers that they have to be careful when removing asbestos. One young guy (worker #1) who spoke for the three since he spoke English fluently, stated that they will be working carefully and they are aware of my husband?s condition. Another worker, (worker #2)., is the father of the first worker and spoke minimal English. And the third worker (worker #3), hardly spoke at all and probably did not speak English. Worker #1 asked me to sign a form to confirm that there are no current damages on our home prior to them starting their work.

He explained that his dad will work from the attic and his dad will pull the ducts and a vacuum will suck the asbestos particles.  I showed the third worker the registers and he began removing the register plates. When it was time to take out the ducts the third worker went to the living room to begin the work.  At the same time, worker #1 was asking me questions in the kitchen almost as if to distract me from checking on worker #3 in the living room. I decided to check on the third person in the living room.  He was loosening the boots on the second register but to my surprise he was not using any plastic covering or containment. He wasn't even wearing any protective gear. I asked worker #1 why there were no plastic barriers to contain the asbestos particles?  I reminded him that I was told a plastic barrier and water would be used.  He said "Nah, it's ok, see you can't even see anything. It's fine. Just let us do our work". I told him that you cannot see asbestos fibers with your own eyes. I insisted that they use water and a plastic barrier. Then the father was yelling something in Spanish but I couldn?t tell what he was saying. And the son (worker #1) said, "Look do you want us to finish this job? Cause we can leave if you don't want us to finish. He eluded that this is what his father is yelling about, however, I don't know if this is the case.  Worker #1 kept telling me, almost threatening me that they can just leave.  So I said ok, I'll call the sales rep. He said something to his dad and that's when his dad came down. By this time, they started working on the office vents (the living room and dining room returns were already done improperly).  When the father came down, he asked what the problem was and I told him that they were supposed to use water and plastic barriers. Only then did they prep the returns with plastic and used water when I was present. So I had to watch everything they did to make sure it was done correctly. I was so upset. I told them they need to complete the job and leave.

When all the vents were done, they started working on the ducts in the ceiling. At this time I was in the kitchen and can hear them making so much pounding noise in the attic. From the kitchen I looked up at the ceiling near the door to the garage and noticed that the ceiling was beginning to protrude downwards and I noticed an opening. l went outside to let them know and worker #1 who was in hazmat gear in the plastic containment stepped out and said again, "Just go inside and let us do our job. I know about the ceiling". I asked him how would he know if the ceiling is being damaged, since he can't see it. I told him that I have to let him know so he doesn't make it worse. I can't believe this was happening. He continues to tell me to go inside and let them do their job. During our conversation, the third worker was going in the plastic containment that worker #2, was in but this third worker still had no protective gear. He did go in and out of the plastic containment and has been going in and out of our house afterwards.

I called the sales rep and told her of the issues above. I asked where the foreman was and she said that she will try to look for him. I also asked to speak to her manager but was told he was in  class. Later, she said that the foreman was in a class too and could not come to the site. I don?t know why I was told the foreman would be present only to find out later that he was in a class on a Sunday.

My husband and I were very concerned about the asbestos that may be lingering in the air and the surfaces of our home and potential health problems this may cause me and my family especially our daughter. Therefore we stayed at a near by hotel for 5 days during Thanksgiving until asbestos testing can be done and resulted.

Workers also left debris on the floor inside the house and I had to clean it myself and in the garage and driveway. We watered the floor in the driveway and part of the garage but not sure if this is the way to get rid of it. We also had to throw our carpet at the entrance and hallway because of the third worker going in and out of the house after going in the plastic containment in the garage.

Alliance workers created a very serious air quality and health hazard for me and my family.  We could not sleep, we were very stressed and we had to take time off from work. I had to research and call several Certified Asbestos Consultants (CAC) to see what type of asbestos test they can recommend, if they are available to test our house for asbestos, and cost. However, because of the Thanksgiving holiday, not many of them were available. Most CACs I called recommended the TEM test specific to asbestos but ranged from $650-800. Alliance would not pay for the test until I listed all the problems their workers caused and until after Titan, a CAC recommended by Alliance recommended that a TEM test was needed. The VP of Alliance, Shaun Murphy, after reading my email of all the issues and after hearing Titan recommended a TEM test, verbally approved payment for this test. We were so tired and wanted to go home soon and thought we could trust Shaun to keep his word that we did not get his approval in writing. Titan did the TEM test which came out negative and when Alliance found out the test was negative, they no longer wanted to pay for the test. We don't even know how Alliance found out the results because we initially paid for the test as recommended by Titan/Alliance so that there would not be any bias with the results, but now I'm not so sure if there wasn't any bias.

Later that week, after some thought, we realized other problems:

1) There was insufficient negative pressure when the register boots were being removed because all nine registers were not sealed. After removing the register face plate, the register holes should have been taped so that the negative vacuum would suck up the asbestos. But since the registers were open, the va

We contacted several companies and chose Alliance Environmental because David Mouser was really knowledgeable and honest, he gave us the best estimate, he also explained in a lot of detail what to expect, any potential issues, etc. We felt he went out of his way to help, and we really felt we could trust the information he was giving us. We only wanted the popcorn ceiling removed because we already had a painter that would do the taping, painting, etc, afterwards. Our painter complimented the work they did and he said he will also recommend Alliance Environmental to his clients. We were very happy with the results.

Communication was OK.  David Mouser was a bit spotty, but generally responded well. There was a lot of back and forth, until it was finally settled that the original contractor would pay Alliance to clean up the mess.

Alliance came in, set up, and in one day cleared the job.

I took a little off the rating because I never quite got the followup I expected.  The first crew left all the sheeting and negative air pressure equipment in place and just left.  I later learned that's because a second crew is supposed to come by, do testing, and tear down.  I never saw the results of the testing and air sampling.  It was unclear how much of a mess the original fraudulent contractor had made: for example ducts may have been dragged through a suspended ceiling.  Having some test results would have given comfort that the job is really "done".  Instead the job was very constrained to just one area.

Also unfortunately: one old unused asbestos boot got forgotten.  It was not on the bid list, there is no blame here, it just got overlooked.  The sad part is to clear that up means facing the entire process again: plastic sheeting, negative air pressure, bunny suited young workers... all for about 3 minutes of work to yank the duct.

---------
Side note: all the workers were young.  Asbestos removal though may be a better job for the old.  If an Asbestos cancer takes 30 years to mature, then 60 or 70 year old workers face far fewer risks.

Our master bathroom kept getting surface mold so we called Alliance to do mold remediation.Mike was easy to work with, emailed us quotes, and the work was well done. They tore down our walls, flooring, shower stall, and toilet and kept the area well enclosed.  He also recommended several companies for post-remediation mold testing and we did that too.

We have 2 zone heating. From the start they explained that they couldn't clean the ducts in zone 1 because there was asbestos wrap on the duct pipes. When I asked if they could still clean the registers & furnace in zone 1, the supervisor said yes. They only cleaned half of the registers in zone 1. They MISSED 3 rooms! & I had to call them back as they were departing to clean the furnace in zone 1. They lost the 2 screws for another register & after I pointed that out, they looked & found 4 extra ones they thought might fit. Perhaps the extra screws came from another job. In zone 2, we had to point to 2 registers that they forgot about but they did clean after we showed them the second time. They failed to screw 1 register back in properly. They failed to move the furniture back. THEY PUT PERFUME IN MY HEATING SYSTEM WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME. Allergic people generally don't like perfumes.

The initial quote was provided promptly, but getting questions regarding the complexities was painful. The original estimator was unable to answer and became unresponsive by email. Contacting headquarters got good answers and a revised quote, but it took effort on my part. The work was completed by a two man team, one of which had no English. The work appeared satisfactory.

There are so few licensed asbestos removal and, when I first found alliance, I was pretty happy. When I first contacted with David Mouser, he was pretty quick to response, provide a quote and pleasant to work with. After I signed the contract and paid the deposit, David becomes a little harder to find and the job start date is delayed by a few days. I thought, maybe he is a little busy so it's OK. Once the job started, it was supposed to finish within 2 days and it becomes 3 days. David called saying that another job has an emergency and he is pull his crew to fix that so the job will be delayed. It's all fine I thought, stuff happens. After it's the job is complete, I enter the house and find the following surprises: 1). Master bedroom/ bath ceiling sheet rock are severely damaged by the water sprayed and scraping. 2). the water/glue dripping on the wall was not cleaned up and ran down the wall. The wall is newly painted several month earlier. If it was cleaned up at that time, the whole interior does not need to be repainted. Now the whole interior needs new paint job due to the water stains. 3). Fragments of popcorn ceiling materials are sticking to the wall next to the down stair bath. Looks like someone may forgot to put up plastic containment in that area. 4). Promise of saving as much crown moulding as possible was not done. Not even one complete piece of crown moulding is left. 5). Most of the staples are left on the wall At that time, I was interviewing 3 different contractors to do some remodeling. All of them visited say that Alliance did a very poor job on pop corn ceiling removal. After I complained the above problems, David send a crew back to pull out most of the staples. The clean up crew still miss that one wall with possible asbestos contamination. I have negotiated with Ed and David for 3 weeks and they refuse to either fixes the damaged ceiling sheet rock or pay my contractor to fix it. They stated that it is part of the contract which I reread it, it does not say the popcorn ceiling removal will damage the sheet rock. I didn't even bother to ask them to reimburse some of the repainting cost. I will not recommend them for any work because: 1). They do a lousy job 2). They do not do what is promised even if I remind them many times 3). They do not fix the problems they created and refuse to talk about a solution. I posted similar report in Yelp and picture of the job.
Response from Alliance Environmental Group
"This final response will attempt to provide further clarification on Alliance's response to the member’s concerns and to a description of Alliance's work. Concern no. I: Alliance was hired to remove acoustic ceiling materials from the member’s residence. The written agreement indicated that, following the removal, the ceiling sheetrock would not be in a condition to repaint, but would require floating and texturing prior to repainting. Specifically, the agreement provided, "Paint, wallpaper, molding and trim damage will occur and is excluded. Such repair must be part of your finish work. Trim removed will not be re-installed by Alliance Environmental." The agreement further provides, "Ceiling surface will NOT be ready for paint. Plan and budget for floating and texturing." Floating and texturing are the very "repairs" that will remedy the damage The member believes was caused to the sheetrock. Replacement of the ceiling sheetrock is not necessary or justified. Additionally, the removal of acoustic ceiling materials involves the use of sprayed water and scraping. The member contends the drywall ceiling now needs to be replaced due to the use of water and due to the scraping. After further investigation, Alliance confirmed that the drywall was not damaged (e.g., there are no holes in the drywall), but merely needs to be floated, retextured, and repainted, as advised in the written agreement. Concern no. 2: Alliance did not use glue in its removal of the acoustic ceiling. After the member’s complained that there were water marks on his walls, Alliance returned to his home to clean whatever stains were noted. Alliance did not note any conditions on the walls that would have .required that the entire walls be repainted. In response to the member’s continuing complaints that marks on his wall remained, Alliance offered to return to his home to conduct additional cleaning; however, the member refused this offer. Concern no. 3: Alliance placed the rooms in which the acoustic ceiling was removed under full contained. After completion of the work, Alliance returned to the home and found no fragments of acoustic ceiling anywhere. As indicated above, Alliance offered to return to the member’s home to perform any necessary additional cleaning, but the member refused this offer. Concern no. 4: Given the nature of the project, the crown molding removed could not be reused and reattached. The written agreement specifically stated that the crown molding would be removed and disposed. Occasionally, on some projects involving remediation or abatement of materials on or around the ceiling, homeowners will request that some crown molding be kept so that the homeowner will have the ability to attempt to match the previous molding when restoring their home. With the member’s home, Alliance retained a section of his molding, approximately six feet in length. Nevertheless, the crown molding removed would not have been able to be reused. Hired them by phone. The tech came out on a Thursday. Friday began a 3 day weekend, so I was on pins and needles the whole time. They were actually late, but were very apologetic and did give super service when I complained. Though they might have gotten a lower score for that, I actually felt they worked very hard to make sure I was satisfied. The report they gave me was the determining factor in not buying the house and I made sure the sellers and the sellers agent received it as well.

I contacted this company the day before Christmas, two days after I discovered that I had black mold poisoning and moved out of my home. My initial contact was professional and courteous. They sent someone out to look at the mold problem the first week in January and assured me that they could deal with the problem the following week and that it would only take two or three days of work. What ensued was a nightmare. All total, it took the company 2 MONTHS to complete the work, during which time I had to remain out of my home. When I attempted to address the situation several times, I was treated very poorly. Each time another team was sent out to my home they never completed the work they were supposed to do. I had to continually call back and complain and get more people out to redo the job. This happened at least 5 times! They failed the independent test two times. The first time, the test guy wouldn't even DO the test because he could tell from the look and smell of things that the work was far from done. I could write pages about everything that happened. I finally talked to the supervisor and told him they needed to get their act together and get the work done in a satisfactory manner or I was going to fire them and hire someone else. At that point, he denied any responsibility on his part of the part of his workers, made excuses and EVEN blamed me for the problems! I decided to go to the top and spoke to the owner of the company. He took 3 days to return my call and then eventually agreed to give me a discount for the work. I spend over $4000 in rent and lost income in my home business...they really should have paid ME! I settled on the $1310 charges instead of the original $2100. I warn EVERYONE to not even consider working with this company! The independent tester even told me that they have seen this company's work before and they have had frequent problems with them. DO NOT use Alliance Environmental!

Alliance was very professional to work with. Above and beyond the abatement effort, they took great care to protect the antique woodwork in our home (they very carefully covered the vents in our home to make sure that the tape didn't touch the wood which could be easily damaged). The proof that they did a great job is the final test results: we had the air in the basement tested after the abatement and it came back totally clean: no fibers in the air in either the basement or the crawl space.

I found mold on the wall in my son's room caused by a bad landscaping job. It caused moisture to get into the walls. Brought Alliance out and they did a nice job explaining what would happen. Received their quote and decided to go with them. When the work crew came out, they explained what would happen, from sealing off part of the room to how they would remove the mold and that they would filter the air for at least 24 hrs. They covered the wood floor in our hallway so they wouldn't scratch it, which I thought was nice. The only area for improvement for them, I think, would be to improve their time in contacting me back. They accidentally got my e-mail address wrong which delayed me receiving the quote. Then when they needed to pick up their equipment, they called just before they were ready to come out(we weren't home). Overall, I was happy with them and would recommend.

Very prompt in returning phone calls, and the estimator was out the next day. He was very helpful in figuring out the work that needed to be done. When we decided to go with them they were able to schedule us in very fast. Day of the job, they came and did the job well. I did find a spot that they missed when going over the job, but they took care of it right away. My only complaint is that when they took down the tape from the containment areas they did it pretty fast and pulled some paint off in some places. We'll be repainting anyway, but it was a bit annoying.

Workers Sean and Jesse came about 9 a.m. on the work day. Jesse thoroughly sealed the upstairs vents and then sealed off the area downstairs and removed the ducts- sealing them in plastic and put them in their truck. He took samples and informed me they would return as soon as lab tests were done to verify asbestos was gone and nothing remained in the air. This whole process took about 2 1/2 hours. The office called the next morning to inform me the tests came back negative. Sean was back that morning to remove the sheet plastic sealing and the job was over. They were quick and thorough and courteous. A very fine job done!
