Description of Work: Jack 'n Tool Box were the contractors for a total remodel of our kitchen. They helped with the design and oversaw the whole job. They were great to work with; very careful to screen out dust and dirt from the job so it didn't get into other rooms. Very professional, solved some tough problems along the way and got it done in record time.

They didn't do what they said they would do, which was to mitigate moisture damage to several cottages. They claim to be marine engineers. They have no idea what they are doing, and then fail to supervise their Latino workers. I ultimately found another contractor who cleaned out the mess in the crawlspaces, installed commercial grade sump pumps at the low end of each cottage building, and then put in a mesh to keep their special plastic ground material off direct contact with the ground. All moisture flows to the sump beneath the sump pumps. In the controlled airspace of the crawlspace, these other guys wrapped with plastic material up the exterior walls (but on the inside of course) and seal the perimeters. They sealed all crawlspace vents to keep exterior air (of a higher humidity) from invading the crawlspace area. They installed commercial grade de-humidifiers to reduce the moisture ABOVE the plastic but beneath the floor joists to dry out the crawlspace area--to an average of 35% year around. Large ducts were installed to put de-humidified air into critical areas. Some 4 years after the unprofessional work by Jack N Toolbox the work described immediately above was done for approximately $20,000--and is working! Jack Byer's crews are unsupervised and unprofessional. They have no idea what they're doing, and they cut corners where they don't think the owner will ever venture to see the work.
Description of Work: The provider claims to be expert in moisture control for a crawlspace area. However, their methods and materials are completely foreign from every construction book, contractor, and common sense. The charged roughly $30,000 for a $14,000 job. (And this was for a 'friend.') Their installation was inconsistent. They claim that moisture control is accomplished by installing heavy gauge plastic beneath the floor joists and above the crawlspace where all the moisture is. They added several fans to keep air moving throughout the area. In areas where the average person could not readily see their workmanship, they just draped the plastic on the ground, instead of tacking it to the floor joists as they claim is the 'school solution.' No school teaches this method. The REAL way to do this is to seal the ground from the crawl space to keep the moisture from the wood and the structure itself. This they did not do. In fact, I had to pay another contractor to come in and tear out their bad work.
