"Thank you, it was our pleasure."
I called Specialty Air out of desperation and exasperation following a disturbing service call from the installers of my new heat pump and programmable thermostat. Specialty Air is highly regarded in my condo community as a company that is trustworthy.
The woman that answered my phone call at Specialty Air listened to my detailed and very upset description of what had happened with the other company. The owner of Specialty Air then spoke with me. He also patiently listened and asked questions. He then was uncommonly compassionate enough to tell me that he would send one of his techs out, without charge, to inspect the system and to provide me with some additional information concerning the issue of the heat not working.
I am SO glad that I called Specialty Air. Although this was a call they weren't taking a dime on, the appointment they scheduled for me was next day, first appointment -- and in the summer!! The tech called when he was on his way here, and was also on time for the appointment. He was clean, courteous, and very easy to communicate with.
He first inspected the thermostat, and immediately saw that it hadn't been switched to "heat pump" operation. He showed me the back of the cover because it didn't take an HVAC tech to see there were two system modes on the thermostat to choose from -- one clearly labeled "heat pump," and the installer had selected the other/wrong setting.
The Specialty Air tech also noted that the thermostat had just one jumper installed on it, and a phone call to the manufacturer of the thermostat, Honeywell, confirmed that one jumper is needed for the air mode, and a second for the heat mode. It was impossible the way the thermostat was installed for the heat to ever work. Additionally, the unit itself was improperly wired.
I am convinced that most techs probably wouldn't have persisted to try to resolve this wiring issue once the thermostat was quickly and correctly switched to "heat pump" with the heat still not working. The tech could have easily told me the remedy was to install a new fan coil unit (thousands of dollars to do and needless -- as the fan blows strong and the air conditioning works like a dream). Secondly, if I would have paid for the expensive cleaning that the tech from the installing company told me was necessary, it still wouldn't have worked, and once again, the solution would have been to replace the ceiling fan coil unit to resolve the issue -- and it still wouldn't have worked until the thermostat issue was resolved.
It did take a few hours to inspect, troubleshoot, and get everything straightened out, but he got it done and it works great! I'm am so very thankful to have a company to use that has skilled technicians, and where they do business in a reputable manner. I highly recommend Specialty Air for their excellent customer service, integrity, and skill.
