Response from Precision Engineering Design
This is a response to the comment made by Member about our company and our work. The person, who wrote this review never spoke with me or anyone at my firm never saw me and does not understand what was supposed to be included in our service. Our verbal contract was agreed upon between her husband and our company. I am the president of the company and would like to address all comments listed in the review and point out the invalidity of her statements: 1. The verbal contract was agreed upon via a telephone conversation. The client was advised that the inspection will take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. The written report will be provided a week or later after the inspection, based on our current workflow. The client specifically stated that it is an acceptable time frame, as long as we can complete the physical inspection as soon as possible. 2. Client’s spouse indicates that the geologist spent 5-6 hours at their home. Client emailed me the geologist’s memo, which states, verbatim: “The buyer elected to have a site verbal report and there was not sufficient documentation by Xxxxxx Geotechnical in the 2 hour budget to allow preparation of a detailed report of our observations”. This statement clearly states TWO HOURS, not 6. In addition to the review of the geologist’s memo, I personally contacted the geologist to have a better understanding of client’s house foundation and soil. The geologist stated the following to me: Geologist’s original proposal for the investigation was $1,700+. Client declined the proposal, and requested a verbal investigation. For $375, the geologist concluded the 2-hour verbal investigation and advised the client to take notes, as no report will be included in this price. When the geologist finished his investigation, the client requested a written report and stated that he was willing to pay additional fees for the written report. Client was charged an additions $275 for a written report, consisting of 1.5 pages (which I have reviewed). That is a total of $650 for the investigation and report from the geologist. Our company provided the client with more than 2-hour investigation and a 4-page written report for $600, per our original verbal agreement. 3. The pictures we take are for our records, not to increase the size or the visual appeal of our report. 4. The geological memo was provided by the geologist and all significant issues were verbally discussed with the geologist by our engineer. The soil and geological information was not included in the structural engineer’s report, as it is not our field of expertise. Client hired a geologist and a soil engineer for this purpose, and their statements were reviewed by our firm, geologist was interviewed and the relevant information was considered for the purposes of completion of the structural report. 5. The purpose of the investigation was to determine if foundation settlement is the cause of cracks on the walls. Two independent consultants’ reports (a soil engineer and a geologist) stated that there isn’t any evidence of recent soil settlement. The Geologist mentioned one crack on the retaining wall and stated that it “is not that unusual” and “along numerous interior continuous footings and irregular foundation walls, there were no cracks or separations that would indicate any general soil or hillside related distress to the house”. Our structural engineer investigated the foundation system and did not discover any evidence that contradicts with the geologist’s findings. 6. In the course of our dealings with this client, we have spent numerous additional hours communicating with this client, made every attempt to satisfy their requests and answer all the questions. The client was not charged anything extra for this additional time spent on their case and was given close and personal attention by our company’s representatives. If you are reviewing the comments about our company, we ask you to consider the validity of the claims made by this member, based on our address of the matter. I am available to answer any questions that you may have about the integrity and quality of our work and can provide multiple documented references, if necessary.
