After we received the car back and drove home, we noticed a squeaky belt sound that was not present before. I did not speak up since I had no intention of taking the car to them for further service of what was likely an unrelated problem. However, If a noise is present, I expect the service representative to bring this to my attention and they did not. We did take the car in the next week to R and S Auto Care to have the car serviced, and it was found that a bearing on an idler pulley was the source of the noise. Another minor complaint is the radio required a security code to restore its operation. This is an expected consequence of disconnection the battery, but I would like the service station to either point that out to us or find the code and restore operation of the radio.
Pros:
- Service was done when they told us it would be done
- "Free" exterior car was is included
- They did take $50 off the total when I asked if there were any discounts available
Negatives:
- Too expensive... It is a dealership, parts and labor are always top dollar.
- Poor communication - although the repair was completed on time, they did not call us to inform us of the status, and this was after 2 calls to them to find status and neither call was returned. We were anxious to know of status since we had to coordinate the return of a rental car and avoid paying for an extra day.
- Took too long - This is less than 3 hours labor, but it took a full 24 hours to replace the alternator.
I asked how long the service would take so I could plan my day. The guy said three maybe four hours. I asked about alignment, and he said they would check it and advise me about it. I asked if doing the alignment would significantly change the time they needed. He said they could perform the service and the alignment in three to four hours, tops. I said fine, let me know when it is ready.
At 12:30 my wife called me to see if I was ready to pick up the car because she wanted to go to lunch. I called the dealership and they said the car was not ready but it would be soon. I guess I sounded a bit upset because he offered to have the shuttle come pick me up because the car was taking longer than expected. I was okay with that.
Finally, at about 2:00, the guy calls and says the car is just about ready and they can come pick me up. The shuttle driver got my location after a bit of repeating. He came and picked me up, and we arrived at the dealership at about 2:30.So far, I would probably give them a better grade. Here is where things went down hill. It took me about 15 minutes before I could find anyone in the service department. When I found the guy he said the car had just gone on the alignment rack. He asked if I wanted them to take it down and do it some other day. I asked how much longer it would take. He said about 20 minutes. Well, I was kind of stuck there, so I told him okay. From that point, it took just about an hour for my car to come out. So, I wasted about 90 minutes at the dealership waiting for a car that was supposed to be ready about two hours before I got there. All in all, the service that was to take three to four hours tops took them eight and a half hours.
I am going to go home tonight to check the air filters that they supposedly replaced to make sure they are new because I don't think I really trust these guys.
