Don't use this company! You will be ripped off!

When I bought my house I had a couple companies come and quote the job to replace my garage door hardware and install a new garage door opener. They are solid wood and I wanted to keep them rather than replace them because they add to the cottage look of my house. I went with Besser Bros despite the fact that they quoted me higher on both replacing my garage door opener and replacing the hardware becasue they had my house in their system so I figured they knew my doors best. I was looking for best quality and service rather than cheapest price.

I was very disappointed.

I scheuled them to come fix my doors and I had my husband at the house for the service. He said the salesman/ serviceman did not fix the doors but instead said our doors should be replaced to the tune of about $3k vs fixed for about $550 because they are old.

Did I mention solid wood? I love them! They are perfectly funtional and have lots of character. They may not like them but I do!

I should have known then...

I called and rescheduled for them to come FIX them and it took a couple calls beacuse they had to check several times with the manager. I finally got them scheduled to come fix the door and install the new opener. When the serviveman was DONE, he said to me that the ALREADY HIGHR price I was quoted did not incude the springs which HE HAD ALREADY REPLACED! it would be an additional $108.

I told the repaiman to call the company to verify, He yold me he worked long enough for Besser Bro's to know what he was talking about.

I have since seen these springs at the hardware store and yes I was ripped off in more ways than one.

Yes I should have called the compay myself at that very moment to complain. Yes I should have written this review sooner. But if any of you have ever moved cross country, bought a house, moved in with 2 dogs and 2 kids, and deal with all the typical maintance and remodel you understand that you just hope to come accross good, honest companies.

This is not one of them. Use someone else. I shoul have used Sears.

A lot of people came out with quotes. There were 2 that I adored and I used him mostly because of the garage door opener that he recommended versus the other one. This guy looked exactly like my brother. No matter what his name was, I called him David. I felt bad but I kept calling him David.There was only a $49 difference between the 2 and they were considerably cheaper than some of the other quotes. They were quite reasonable.

We've used them a few different times and have always received prompt, professional service. It can be an unsettling feeling when you cannot open your garage door. They came out the next day and within an hour we were good to go.

It went well with no snags and prompt, professional service.

They replaced the motor and assembly to open the garage door

I'm disappointed with the price of $325 for 2 springs replaced. Invoice didn't have a breakdown of parts and labor costs. Just a flat fee. However the technician arrived on time and did an adequate job.

Estimator arrived on time and made recommendations for how to make a difficult replacement. The garage has low overhead because of a storage loft and very little side clearence because of an addition and cabinetry. Previous attempts with another vendor had failed. He measured the openings carefully and explained the options. He was very professional and not pushy. He had obviously installed doors and was not just a salesman. The installers were also puntual, professional and were prepared for contingencies. The jambs had some rot and they were able to replace them. The installation was quick and clean and the existing electric opener was rebraced to allow its continued use.

Very happy with the service provided by Besser. The technician was prompt and professional - he provided a clear explanation of what he would do and completed the installation in a timely manner.

Tom showed up as scheduled and started right to work. He had the door and rails removed along with the garage door opener. He contacted someone to come by later and pick up the old door and fixtures. That person arrived later and hauled everything away. He then installed and fine tuned the new door and opener and went over operation of the door and locations to lubricate the door to keep it in good working order. He even gave me his contact phone number that I can call if I have any immediate problems with the door. I have had no problems with the door since it's installation.

I was very impressed with Besser Bros. I thought we would need a new door, but the service person showed me why keeping our old door was better (and much less expensive). He was friendly and professional.

We have used them in two of our houses, and they have been fabulous. They sent a guy out to do the measurements, showed every type of garage door there was and explained the differences between them. I chose what I was interested in. They ordered them, showed up two weeks later and installed them. The people who did the estimations and measurements were not the people who did the installation; they have dedicated installers. They know what they are doing. They explained things like the importance of greasing the bearings once a year. The cost for the garage door, garage door opener and tracks was $2100. They are really good. They don’t charge to come out and do alignments and things like that - it is all free. I would rate them highly.

The garage door had hit a poorly placed immovable object and was discombobulated..that is partially knocked off track and cables unwound. I got the door back on the rails but, couldn't figure out what to do with the cables/drums so called Besser. The technician (invoice #624985) did an excellent job restoring the door to operating order and making it quieter than before. He was punctual and efficient as well. I am making this report as I know you can really overpay for these services if you get the wrong contractor in.

IT TOOK FOREVER FOR THEM TO ORDER THE SPRING. I THINK THE SPRING WAS THE WRONG. IT TOOK FIVE WEEKS TO GET THE RIGHT PART. I HAD TO CALL BACK. I DON'T LIKE TO CALL BACK AND SAY WHERE IS MY SPRING.

WE HAVE USED THEM BEFORE. THAT IS WHY WE CALLED AGAIN. OVERALL, THEY ARE A GOOD QUALITY COMPANY. THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE. THEY WORKED AROUND OUR SCHEDULE. THEY WERE THERE WHEN YOU NEEDED THEM THAT DAY.

I AM TOTALLY CONFIDENT IN SPEAKING WITH THEM ON THE PHONE AND FIGURING OUT WHAT HE NEEDED. HE IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND OPEN WITH COMMUNICATION ON WHAT HE FOUND. HE HELPED LATER WITH INFORMATION ON A PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE.

THE GARAGE DOORS NEEDED OILING, AND HE SAID THAT IT WOULD COST ME $25 EXTRA. WHEN HE GOT DONE, HE HAD CHARGED ME $25 PER DOOR JUST TO SQUEEZE SOME OIL. IT SEEMED PRETTY EXPENSIVE.

THE GENTLEMAN THAT THE COMPANY SENT WAS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN GARAGE DOOR REPAIRS. HE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND GAVE ME A QUOTE BEFORE BEGINNING ANY REPAIR WORK. HE WAS PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS AND RECOMMENDED FUTURE CHANGES I MIGHT WANT.
