Angus Smith Construction

My issue with Angus Smith is not so much the quality of his work. That is mediocre for the time he took to get the jobs done and for the high price he charged. My issue is with his arrogant attitude and extremely unprofessional behavior. I served on the Board of Directors for our HOA and he was a contractor the previous Board was using. I quickly learned that he was a very expensive and was a very difficult person to deal with. We asked him for details on past work that was done in other units (which our HOA paid for) and he told us to go to the house and look for ourselves, instead of just giving us an honest answer, which we never did get. We asked him to give us quotes for smaller jobs and he refused to do it because it wasn't worth his time to tell us about how much it would cost to fix. When we stopped asking him for bids, the nasty email correspondence started, including unbelievable name-calling to the Board and management company, telling us what a bunch of idiots we were for not hiring him. His attitude is totally off the charts. The work he does for the prices he charges is not worth having to put up with such unprofessional behavior. I fear retaliation for writing this report, but I do have all the documentation to back it up and as a member here I feel others should know about the incidents we experienced with him.

UPDATE: I've recently replaced all my light switches in my home with modern switches. I had problems with the one he installed because the box was not securely installed. Now I need to hire another contractor to fix his work. I won't let him back into my home.
