C & J FENCING

Buyer beware... I have used C&J Fencing in the past and sometimes they do acceptable work. But, when you get a bad team or issues with the work due to their bad design, you will likely not be able to get them to fix it properly and have to spend additional $ to get it done right. In the end it is just the luck of the draw and therefore I don't recommend them. Any company that doesn't stand behind their work shouldn't be considered for your job. There prices seem good, but not after you have to invest additional time and money to make it right. I have learned my lesson the hard way and will never use them again. Beware.

I do not recommend this business. They recently replaced a shared fence on a property line with a neighbor. First, they cut two substantial branches on a tree (on my property) with cuts that were over six feet from the fence line without asking to do so or receiving prior permission. When I asked the crew supervisor why that happened and why didn't he ask permission, he said he didn't know they did it. The branches were on the ground and easily seen. Second, on the same day after the work was completed and I saw what happened, I contacted them by email with pictures about the problem and asked them to contact me immediately. No response. I left two voice mail messages with their head of "quality" (Tammie) over the next two days. No response. I then left a voice mail message with the owner, Chris. Still no response. Their lack of interest in responding is very disappointing. You can go to the Better Business Bureau website and see a complaint made that is very similar. That complaint is not from me.

Good communication. Estimator explained costs and options very clearly and answered questions. Returned calls when I had additional questions. Office called to remind me one week and two days before job started. Good, quality work: Bottom of fence needs short retaining wall because the ground on one side is higher than the other side. Construction crew lengthened it from original estimate because they believed it would be a better quality fence, at no additional cost No short cuts: Fence is on a very gentle slope. Crew made sure top of fence is level and stepped down a few inches about every 20 feet. The old fence did not have the retaining wall and the top was a slope following the terrain. Very long wait list: I had to wait for three months from estimate to construction. Other companies' were shorter, ranging from 3 weeks to two months.

Hire anyone other than C & J! After advising them they installed the wrong fence, their reply was that they would come and reinstall the correct fence for an additional fee, which I refused to pay. I withheld payment and provided documentation to which they ignored. My neighbor who promptly paid their portion of the fence has since been threatened by C & J saying they will send them to collections, even though they paid. At the time of this writing they have not replied to the BBB or Consumer Affairs in response to the complaints I filed.

Arrived on time, work went smooth, and fence looks good.

DO NOT HIRE I've written dozen of reviews on Angie's List and dealt with hundreds of service providers over the years. This is only the second company I would tell others not to hire; the other I won a court judgement against. Contacted C & J to explain our options and provide an estimate. We made some adjustments to the design of the fence, signed a contract and booked at date for the work. They called the day before to say their crew would arrive Friday afternoon. Crew actually arrived Friday mid-morning which was inconvenient. When they examined the work area, they discovered the plan to dig holes in the patio for the fence posts wouldn't work as there was a pipe underneath the patio. Instead they'd need to use anchor brackets for the fence posts, and they didn't have them on the truck. Asked me to call the company and they did the same. Called the main number and left an estimate and also called our estimator. After about an hour, they finally got a senior person on the phone who said he had the brackets but was about an hour away. In talking with him, I was told he'd get someone to bring the brackets out, meanwhile the crew was going to another job site and would be back that afternoon. The crew did not return Friday afternoon or Monday. Tuesday AM I emailed our contacts at C&J and asked what the status of our job was. I was out of town the remainder of the week but they did not reply. Called the next week on Tuesday and spoke with Pam who said she would check with others what was going on. Called back Friday morning and left a follow up message for Pam. It's now been THREE WEEKS since our job was scheduled and I can't even get the company to respond to me much less honor our contract. The lack of responsiveness and professionalism is pretty hard to believe. (But believe me, this is all true.) Good news is I didn't pay any deposit but I'm out about 3 hours of my time plus the crew left a mess when the started prepping the area. See photos. Their pricing was a lot less than the handyman who's done some work for us and it's possible they do quality work, but there's always a chance that they'll simply flake on you and not even have the courtesy to follow up. And those are the service providers Angie's List should help us all avoid.

I have no details....a fence is a fence.

C&J came out to give an estimate. They were punctual, listened closely to my needs. On the day of service, which was just a couple days after the estimate, they sent out a crew who worked really quickly and did a great job. I love the fence, and its very secure.

The job was done in one day, with two people working.  A supervisor came by in the morning giving instructions and left right away.
I am satisfied with the fence, not with the double gates and one single gate.  The gaps between the posts and doors on all sides   are too wide. I pointed it out and they amended the gap in the middle of the double gate a bit.  There was no quality control - meaning why didn't the supervisor check the work in progress and/or after completion.

They were great they worked with our schedule and were there on time and the fence looks great.

The gentleman came two hours early and seemed upset that I wasn't home. I called the office to discuss and there response was basically ok so what do you want me to do?
The crew working originally told me they spoke English, however later in the day when things weren't going well he suddenly did not speak English. I sent my husband out who speaks Spanish and they acted like they didn't understand him ether. Long and short of it is the job done is terrible. Sloppy work, left a mess all nails are crooked. Gates have huge gaps where you can see straight into backyard. Cement work is horrible, left leaves and rocks in cement and jack hammered out my patio in spots and just left it. When they knew I was upset about gaps under fence tried to fill in with rocks and dirt clods. Guess they thought we wouldn't notice. I left messages for them about this and received not return calls. Ryan the estimator ( super nice guy) came out and was appalled by the work and said it would be repaired. However I don't think so we need to have it completely redone.

The guys did a great job, they were on time, built the fence right and were polite and professional, the price was right and overall we are very satisfied, I would definitely  choose them again.

In September, we hired C&J to replace a 100 foot long fence spanning the back of our lot that we shared with two neighbors of which consisted of two dilapidated fences.  The estimator was punctual and friendly, easily surveyed the site, and quickly delivered an estimate that was in line with my other two bids, in fact they beat their prices.  I shared the costs with my two neighbors, and C&J was very equipped to support invoicing for neighbor-shares like we needed.



Our job took one full day -- the crew showed up at 8am and did not stop working for 8 hours straight.  I was home the whole time and watched the whole process.  They were skilled and efficient. Since our lot has some slope that needed to be considered in the implementation, the foreman kept open communications with my neighbors and I to discuss design options to account for the slope.  We collaborated and came up with a design that we were all happy with, especially when the solution did not require more material.  



Additionally, I had other work crews abound in my backyard as part of a completely different project, and the C&J crew easily worked around them.  The crew left my site clean and I loved that they dismantle and haul away the old fencing materials!



The work resulted in a beautiful redwood board-on-board stain protected fence that sets the perfect back drop of my new professionally landscaped backyard.  We could not be happier and already received another C&J bid to replace another 100 foot long fence along the side yard planned very soon.
