Redwood. What an amazing tree. It is also an amazing lumber;rot and termite resistant. Although many people are now using alternatives for decking, such as Trex, redwood is still unique in its beauty. You can buy redwood at most big box home improvement stores. Before you do, check out the wood. Most boards look like my golf shots, hooks and draws. Also unclear from most of these stores is the quality of the wood. If you want redwood, go to Redwood Lumber in San Carlos or in San Rafael. They have an amazing selection of redwood;just redwood. We purchased about sixty 8' boards for a fence and some molding. The fencing was about the same price as the big box stores and it was in good shape. The molding was pure heartwood. Awesome! They are quite nice and helpful. They will let you pick out the wood if you want (a nice touch for many of us).
