MC CARTHY PAINTING

The sales and support process was relatively poor. More on that in a minute. I would have given them an 'A' overall if not for this. The actual work provided by Jose and Enrique was very good. They showed up on time, were conscientious, did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. They were polite, friendly and helpful. I would hire them again. The sales process was poor. It took multiple phone calls and voicemails just to set up a meeting for them to give me a quote. It was literally almost 10 days before I got a visit, and it wasn't because they were so amazingly busy. It was because they don't answer calls during business hours, they don't respond promptly to calls, and they just close the office in the middle of the business day (repeatedly). They ended up being the last painting company I met with. They got the deal in spite of this because of their excellent ratings (Best in Marin, good rating on Angie's List), not because of the efficiency of their office. And I had lower bids, but I wanted quality. I was assigned a "project manager" who told me nothing about what they needed to start. She mentioned that they need to know what colors I wanted, do I wan to paint or just treat my decks, do I want different colors for the eaves/trim, etc., but they paint houses every day, I don't. They offered no resource or advice on selection of color, type of paint, what colors might go together, etc. or the best options. I was pretty much on my own, for something that really affects the look and value of my home. I went to a "paint advisor" at a local paint store, and she wasn't terribly helpful, throwing a few folders at me and talking for about 2 minutes. I mean choosing the color and options is a pretty big deal - I was hoping that a painting company could at least add some value here. They couldn't/didn't. I also had to follow up with them on the invoicing, and remind them to bill me. When that's all the person's job seems to be, and they don't even do that, well, it's not very professional.
