Darren was quick and responsive before work began and for our estimate meeting. I talk a lot so I bet I slowed him down, but he was very mellow about it and was just a happy guy all around. If I was all business, he was. If I wanted to chat he was all ears. There's some Mass. accent in there and he's very familiar with the smaller trade workers in the area. He was creative in finding ways to save work and materials; he also offered to purchase the materials himself or let me try to find a better price (I have a family member working at a hardware store). But his price was better for materials. After work began there were a few unanticipated issues but he took them all in stride and didn't take much time to sort them (nor did he charge me for the little bumps in the road though I'm sure it took him extra time as a result). The work was perfect. The whole project was an odd request to adjust the level of the firebox to the raised floor, leaving the work in s state for me to DIY the finishing parts to save some money, and meeting my odd schedule. Darren was always punctual and I'm more happy with the finished product. More importantly, so is my wife and this was all her idea! Darren beat the next best quote by $200 and I think he actually completed a bit more work that the prior quote didn't address because he has a good eye for planning and seeing problems ahead of time. I'd recommend him to anyone (and already did recommend him to my family).
