A-1 Construction

Mike and his crew were excellent! They were always on-time, worked hard and left the job site very clean at the end of each day and most importantly at the end of the job. Mike is extremely professional. His initial bid was thorough and the final bill came in just UNDER the estimate. We are thrilled with the finished product and we will use him for any future fence and gate work. I will also be referring him to any friend looking for this type of work. Mike gets our full recommendation.

Our highest recommendation goes to A-1 Construction and Michael Quinlan in particular. Being the diligent researchers, we interviewed three different fence repairmen and knew Michael was #1 after the initial conversation. He is not only well-versed in fence repair, his expertise as a contractor shines through by his expanse of knowledge. He is the consummate professional: Extremely savvy, excellent communicator, low key, flexible, receptive and diligent. We inspected all of our fencing and he was extremely honest about what to fix, how to fix it and what to leave alone. No gouging here! In addition to our back fence, he also repaired our gate. His team arrived on time and efficiently fixed the issues. His workmanship was beautiful using more concrete and better support beams, at a lower price, than any other bids. We are lifelong customers!

I recently had a 50' fence installed along with a gate. I asked Mike a zillion questions before I signed the contract as this bid was my sole responsibility (as it is not a good neighbor project). He did a beautiful job and he is a perfectionist. This was for a deck and fencing repair. He is very professional and the price was very good.

It went fantastic. I keep coming back to them and I recommend them to everyone. They are very accurate and neat. Mike checks every board and if he doesn't like it, he takes it away. They work through the whole day and get the work done on time or ahead of time. They're just fabulous. For level and and quality of work, their price is very reasonable.

I had Mike and his crew put up a new fence that blew down in the storms. Mike also mentioned at this time that the Flaking Trex Deck I have might be under warranty, I had no idea and probably never would have if it were not for him, I investigated and I was able to get replacement boards. Mike came back and installed the Boards and built a new Railing for me. The work they did was great on both the Fence, Deck, Railing and Porch. They are on time and work very hard. They clean everything up and do a great job. The price is also very fair. I will definitely use him again.

The job went very well.  He called a a few days before he was to begin to ask if he could start early which was fine with us.  He finished the job ahead of schedule, of course, and did a great job keeping the work site clean after each day of construction.  Pleasant crew and very efficient with time and always punctual.
He helped with scoping out what exactly what it was we needed and was honest about parts of the fence that didn't need to be replaced due to recent storms. 
He gave a very competitive bid vs a couple others we spoke to.  He showed genuine interest in getting the job done in a high quality way at an affordable price.  It was nice that he was one of the folks here each day.  Pleasant person to speak with.

Mike was a pleasure to deal with. Showed up when he said he would, did what he said he would, and on budget. Good quality construction. Cleaned up immaculately as well. Would definitely recommend.

Project went exactly as promised by Mike from A-1. Mike communicates very well, asks questions when there were issues ( and there were many), and was very candid in his idea and opinions. Mike does much of the work himself and the couple of guys that he worked with were very professional. The entire crew was very cordial and cleaned up the work site every day. Mike is very experienced and can spot many potential problems and provide options on how to deal with problems. His estimate for all the work completed, although not the lowest, was reasonable compared to the 4 other bids I got.

I was very happy with A-1. Mike and his crew did a great job. The project was on budget, on schedule, the finished product was great, and the clean up was impeccable.

Reported on time and had the fence removed in the first day with some new posts set.  within 3 days they had the new fence in and
did a great job.  the crew was polite and knew what they were doing.  The boards were screwed in, not nailed, so they can easily be removed and will likely not come loose with drying of the wood.  They also saved us money by using a 2by12 pressure treated base board to mount the fence boards on, giving us the 7'+  fence we wanted but only buying the shorter 6' boards.  they mounded the concrete around the posts properly, so that water will not pool at the posts.  Like I said, seasoned professional team. Of course with any fence work, you must move living plants or they will become part of the compost, know that before you proceed.  Mike and his crew did a first rate job and we anticipate that the fence will last many years to come. 

This is the second job I've had Mike at A-1 do at our new house.  The first job we hired him to do was to install two long sections of deer fence on the sides of our property where no fences existed.  We had just purchased the property and needed the fences for our dog.  The bid Mike provided was about mid range but the quality was exceptional.  He was great at assessing the work to be done, the special concerns and then executed flawlessly, on time and on budget.  
The current job is as described above.  We were so happy with the first job, we brought him back to install a new rear fence with the more attractive thick hog wire.  The fence was not an easy job as it was on the downslope of our hill which butts to open space.  It is also not a flat line but rather a big dip in the middle and side.  Mike installed a beautiful fence, created an attractive looking step down to match the dip of the hill and secured everything well.  We could not be happier.
Also as part of the job, Mike fixed a small section of fence that I agreed to split with my neighbor.  When Mike started the job, he called to my attention that either my neighbor or the prior owner of my house had allowed the fence line to encroach into our property by about a foot.  I called over my neighbor, pointed it out and he agreed to move the property line.  I gained back a chunk of my yard thanks to Mike!
I would recommend Mike unreservedly and I have often been referred to as "particular" ;)

A-1 Construction worked to understand exactly what design of fence I wanted.  In competitive bidding A-1's price was lower.  I was given a ballpark estimate of the start date, but that was moved up sooner, which was appreciated.  When the start date arrived his crew started at 8:30, which is a very reasonable time, not too early.  They completed the job in three days, and the fence is of excellent quality.  A-1 accommodated me and my neighbor with payment and receipts.  I would feel confident using A-1 for further projects.

Michael Quinlan of A-1 Construction showed up on time each day with his crew. They kept me well informed about the progress and Michael was very willing to work with me when I made a few changes to the plans during construction.
I felt his quote was very fair considering the size of the project and the quality of the workmanship and materials. Also the project schedule was kept to the day even with several days of rain.
After each days work the crew cleaned up the work site which including the front area of the house and driveway.
 The deck he built exceeded my expectations in every way.
I can highly recommend A-1 Construction.

Mike and his crew were great!  Along with all of the above mentioned they made sure my dogs could still have access to the yard during the construction. Mike explained what work would be tackled daily and was willing to answer questions.  I would highly recommend contacting Mike is you are considering a building project.

The whole process went smoothly.  He's very busy but worth the wait.  They used top quality materials and everything looks great.  They removed out old fence and were nice enough to take a few other items to the dumps for us.

They are excellent. I used them twice because i was pleased with them the first time.

Mike and his crew constructed 150 feet of redwood fence between the roadway and my property. I had a particular design in mind, and had taken a photo of it. Mike had never seen a fence like this, but he was able to figure it out. He asked for my input several times. His price was the lowest of three I received. It is a beautiful fence. When I'm working in my yard, people driving by stop their cars to tell me how great it looks. And it went up surprisingly fast. I would definitely use A-1 Construction again. | | |

From the beginning, we found Mike professional and easy to work with.  Some of our thoughts on the design were not finalized and Mike was able to contribute his expertise and ideas to produce an exceptional finished product.  We had multiple bids on the project and found A-1 Construction reasonable and competitive.
During the construction Mike found some of the siding on our house had been damaged.  He quickly notified us and came up with a solution that resolved the problem and kept the project on schedule.
Some other factors that exemplified this company's professionalism were:
- thorough and continuous clean-up
- punctuality
- prompt and clear communications
- the team went out of their way to hand pick above-grade lumber

Mike and his team did an amazing job with our side deck. We initially hired him 3 years ago to do our main deck and their promptness, professionalism,  and workmanship proved to be outstanding. Great at  problem solving -  we had a very un-level, sloping yard and his deck design was perfect. The deck completely transformed our backyard and we have received so many compliments over the years. So when we had to replace our side deck, we of course immediately called him  Highly recommended!!!

The work was completed within 5 working days.  The job started on time and was finished when promised.  Any deisgn modification that become necessary were discussed with each neighbor and resolved quickly and preofessionally.  We are both very satified with the results. 

We rarely bother to write reviews but were extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of Mike at A1.  Our neighbor, who did construction for several years, stopped to tell us how impressed he was with the details - such as the precision of the stepping on the slope.  Another friend who owns a landscape design company is going to start referring him because he thought it was so well done.
I own a business and can tell you that Mike is one of those rare people that truly takes pride it his work, so much so that when something wasn't right he had his guys pull posts up and redo the line - before we event noticed it.  
Despite the quality, we got multiple bids and A1 was very competitive, although I would recommend hiring him whether is the cheapest or not if you're concerned with quality and longevity.

From estimate to final nail and clean-up, they were a class act every time. 

They were on time and did quality work and was easy to deal with. I would give them nothing but the highest recommendation.
