BAIT AND SWITCH!!! BEWARE We recently had a pergola built at our home, the company came out and provided a professional estimate and included everything we wanted. However, after work started, and on the last day of construction, the company indicated they could not complete the electrical work (for safety reasons so how could we argue) we had contracted them for and then provided a small discount. Unfortunately, the discount was only for about half of what the actual work will cost in real life. In going back and forth with the owner, he indicated that they had refunded more than double what their electrical estimate was for them to complete. However, this only provides evidence to us that they did in fact bait and switch my wife and me. How could they perform the work for what ended up being approximately 1/4th the cost of two estimates I have subsequently had done for the electrical work they refused to complete? The company is not honest, they do not employ a real electrician as they eluded to in their estimate and they ended up being more expensive than all other estimates we originally had done. They actually ended up being our highest estimate (when we factor in needing to have the electrical work contracted out) because they promised they could do all the work at once, saving us a large headache of hiring another contractor. Yet, here we are, they backed out and only refunded a small portion of the original contract. In trying to resolve the issues (request a small, additional refund to cover more of the electrical work), the company indicated that they had to change the job and increase the size of our pergola and did not pass on any cost to us, so they wouldn't do it. However, this was their estimate and their mistake so why should they pass along any cost to us when their estimate was not correct. We never asked to change anything. I mistakenly paid the full bill, less the small discount for the electrical, thinking they would be stand up guys and help us get the job completed for around the price they refunded, as they hinted at when they backed out of the work. However, their one and only referral was almost double their refund. When I told them this they eventually gave me two more electricians names who, (electrician 1) is booked through the summer, and (electrician two) never returned my phone calls. PROS: - Nice, English speaking builders, friendly and easy to work with - Finished product is aesthetically pleasing and just what we wanted - Provided can of varnish, at our request, to coat our table (however we applied on our own) - Owner was nice, responsive and professional in trying to work through our issues, unfortunately not to a fair resolution in our experience. This is a pro because I have seen friends and family experiences turn into name calling and nearly physical altercations. CONS: - Bait and switch - The most expensive contractor out of 4 estimates (once we add back in 3rd party electrical) - A lot of dripping and oozing sap (we were not told this would happen or how to care for it) - Paint is bubbling in many spot (not made aware this could occur with darker paints) - Job site left with a lot of sawdust, screws and scrap wood - No “finishing touches” on our built-in table, many rough edges and splinters on our eating surface edges, catching on clothes, skin, etc.
