Albuquerque, New Mexico. $26,000 regret. AVOID. My system was installed on April 25, 2022. The installers did their work and left. No discussion. I was working in the home the entire time. I went out and noticed there were two issues. 1. They installed equipment in an unapproved location. The site plan that they gave to me did not show installation of electrical equipment on my patio where my kids play. They installed one of the pieces there despite there being sufficient room per electrical code on the other side of the house around the corner where they installed the other components. 2. They accidentally knocked my irrigation control box off of my house. Instead of saying anything, they just balanced it back up on the holes, not installing it, so essentially hiding their damage and did not say a thing. Since then. So 9 months, I've had multiple representatives from Sunrun come out to review this issue. I've also have supervisors review this issue virtually. All of them have claimed fault and have promised to move my one random component. It is now January of 2023 and there is no movement. In fact, multiple cases have been open with Sunrun. The cases will show open for months and then randomly be closed without resolution. No one can tell why. Instead they will open a new case and the circle begins again. Note that to fix this issue, it would take Sunrun less than one hour. It is literally 10 screws maximum. I would do it myself however the Sunrun warranty explains that all work must be completed by Sunrun, so naturally I want to protect my 26-thousand-dollar investment, not that I have confidence in their warranty or service. Aside from this. They advertise being able to capitalize on the state tax credit however they refuse to provide the necessary documentation required by the state in order to claim the credit. Avoid.

This was he worst experience I have encountered in more than 26 years on my house. It took almost a year for installation and to set up running on the system. Phone calls were almost always sent to South America, the Phillipines, texas (out of state), etc. Problem were not resolved until months later. Reps. refused to call back on appointed times. The worst of all is Sunrun put a STOP PAYment on a check to me for a a promised refund, whick I have already passed on to the tenant in my house. I am now need to file a civil claim for fraud against Sunrun. Please be careful of the Solar company you choose.

Terrible company, misled or lied to me at every turn. They were great until my contract was signed and the panels were on. Customer service is terrible, slow, rude and completely useless.
Things you should know before signing on with Sunrun:1.They WILL  ABSOLUTELY put a lien on your house (despite promises to the contrary in their contract).2. They will NOT repair the damage they cause to your property during installation. (I had to pay $300 for repairs to my rain gutters caused by their ladders).3. They will not pay you for referrals (which I am now sorry I supplied). 4. You will continue to receive and pay a monthly bill from SCE in addition to your Sunrun bill. I was told I would get one annual bill from SCE.So essentially I was misled and lied to by all parties involved. I would not recommend this company again and I regret choosing them for my solar company.
Response from Sunrun

"Ouch [Member Name Removed] ! So sorry to hear about your experience. We pride ourselves on being real and making sure our customers are well informed. It is never our intent to mislead our customers and I would like to clarify a couple points: 1. Per our Sunrun Agreements we do not place liens on homes. We do file notices on title, one of which is required under California State Law, that confirms our ownership of the solar system. These items are definitely not liens against the property and we can remove them from title. We remove items from title at our expense for both refinances and home sales. Please feel free to contact our Customer Care team if you are looking to sell or refinance your home and we would be happy to assist you in this matter. 2. We will definitely cover any damage to your property that is a direct result of our work. If something has occurred on site, please send us a private message with the name and address on your Agreement and we will be happy to review the matter. 3. We gladly pay out Customer Referrals after the referred customer has been installed. After installation the referee can expect to receive payment within 4 weeks. We sincerely appreciate your referral and would be happy to look into the status of your award. Please send us a private message with the name and address on your Agreement so that we can reach-out. 4. Lastly, with regards to the bill from Southern California Edison, you are correct you will still have a separate utility bill. However, this is largely for any energy that your home needs beyond what is provided by the solar system. The system is designed so that your home will use all the energy produced by the solar system first only pulling from Edison when you need the extra power. Southern California Edison places all their solar customers on an annual billing cycle so payment is due once a year for the extra energy. We sincerely apologize if the above points were not clarified on the onset of your project and would love an opportunity to review any outstanding concerns in greater detail. Warm regards, KP"

We encountered Sunrun at Costco and liked what they had to say so asked them to come to the home for an evaluation.  After talking with the salesman we made the decision to go ahead with purchasing solar panels for our home.  This company provided exceptional service, keeping us informed as to where we were in the process every step of the way.  The whole project went very quickly and things were done faster than we expected.  The net cost to us will be about $16,000 after we get back all of our tax credits and rebates for purchasing thru Costco, not a bad price at all for a 24 panel system.  I can't emphasize enough how professional this company was  in working with us.  We highly recommend Sunrun to anyone who is interested in going solar.

They had a massive advertising campaign on the radio - 5-6 years ago they used their spokesman, Ed Asner. They did not mention the name SunRun, only Varengo which is actually a dummy name. BEWARE - they do a bait & switch. They claim on their advertising, the solar panels are absolutely free on a lease basis. The funds you should be saving on electricity pays for the lease and they make their money on the savings. They send out a rep from 'Varango' and says the panels will be installed about a month later. I asked what happened if I sold the house and they said they would take the panels back if the new owner did not want them. They called my wife, went to her office, told her she needed to sign another contract (this time under SunRun) and in small print it says she is responsible if the panels need to be transferred. They say the exact opposite in their advertising campaign and what I was told by the sales rep. There is a class action suit against them now. They could not produce a contract I signed for SunRun, only Verango. I would suggest get a copy of the advertisement and listen to their lies, then look at the class action suit, ask them some questions: Why do they never mention 'SunRun' & switch back & forth? Now I sold my house and am stuck paying $14,500 for some solar panels.
Response from Sunrun

"Hi {member name removed}, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We do work with partners who carry our product. At the time you entered into agreement with us Verengo was a selling partner with Sunrun, but they did not exclusively sell our product. As such, they may have had ads that promoted other aspects of their business independent of Sunrun. The agreement your wife signed was a Sunrun agreement which was provided to you. Our agreements do include your options when selling your home and this information is outlined in section 13 of your specific agreement. We do sincerely apologize if this was not thoroughly explained during the initial sales process and will escalate this feedback to our team. After reviewing your case, I understand that you were able to reach resolution and proceed with the sale of your home. Thank you again for reaching out! We sincerely appreciate the feedback."

Everything has gone perfectly! The Sunrun team is always so professional and knowledgeable when I call to ask questions. Last month was our first month that we got a bill from SCE while using the new solar panels. I think we saved about $200-$250!! Because of the way our roof is configured, we were only able to get 22 solar panels, but that is enough to be able to get us down into the lower SCE tiers. It's taken quite a few calls to Sunrun to learn how this all works, and I've been able to get every question thoroughly explained. We are leasing the solar system so we put zero down.

I would recommend them! I had a huge electrical bill so I decided to do sun panels. Now I receive a bill that is like 1 dollar and some odd cents monthly. The cost of the paneling is $300 monthly.

I wanted to reduce my PG&E bill and at the same time go GREEN.  I was very pleased with the response from REC Solar.  After reviewing my current PG&E bill and conducting a site assessment I was told that  that they could install a solar system that would provide 50% of my electrical usage of about a quarter of my current bill.  I was delighted!
The installation process went very smoothly.  The installers were very friendly yet professional and all the work was completed in a timely fashion .  I could not be happier.

They showed up on time every day for 3 days and left the work areas immaculate.  On the last day, a safety engineer from their company showed up from San Luis Obispo, CA to make sure the guys were following all of their safety rules and, they were.  The installers were very helpful to me in understanding all of the meters and production numbers.  Overall:  Really, really good.

A family member in Bakersfield had REC install at their 7,000 sq ft home over a year ago and recommended them highly so I approached them for an estimate.
REC rep Les prepared and did a great job explaining the customized estimates/projections.  After the REC engineer reviewed the details regarding the house it was determined a larger system could be placed. Les re-ran the numbers and helped me determine the most appropriate choice.
Rather than pay cash for the entire system up front, I chose the SunRun agreement. With $6,000 down I will be paying $185 per month for 20 years and based on past use, 50% of my electricity will be solar.  Because of the tiering of PG&E's charges this will be approximately a 70% savings.
The agreement with SunRun is for all maintenance for the entire 20 years, including the opportunity to buy the system or they will remove it if you wish.  If the house is sold, it is transferrable.  You can pay off the agreement after a certain period (I think 2 years).  SunRun guarantees the minimum projected production and allows me to keep any excess. For example, any 'extra' summer production will be available for use in the evening.  If excess is produced, it will be available to me in the winter.
The installation was impeccable.  The manager Rose was always helpful and Kyle and his crew knew what they were doing.  They were always on time and kept me apprised of their progress.  The roofer, Jody was helpful and professional as well. Perfect experience.  I am looking forward to the savings (payback for entire investment is 5 years) and am pleased to be providing myself clean power.
When those panels are manufactured with wind or solar power - the entire process will be perfect.
ALL of the REC people and contractors were knowledgeable and professional.
PS REC is a local (SLO) company and has been at one time or another THE largest installer of residential solar in the country...

REC was very efficient, professional, and punctual. They were easy to contact & available to answer any questions or concerns we has throughout the entire process, starting before we signed the contract through the whole process of installation & hook up with the electric company. We were very happy with our decision to go with REC. We had interviewed several solar companies before making our decision to go with REC and hands down, they were the best!

I don't understand how or why I am being asked for a review of REC Solar since they only provided me a quotation. I didn't enter any information into Angie's List. The rep for REC Solar was very proffessional and informative. I have no doubt they would have done an excellent job. My only problem is how did this quotation get reported to Angie's List?

We spoke to representatives from three different solar companies before we decided on REC Solar.  Their representative, Henry, explained the whole project very clearly with realistic estimates of rebates, tax credits and timeline for completion.    He was absolutely correct about everything.  We also appreciated the fact that we never felt pressured to make a quick decision about going ahead with the project.
We purchased and had REC install forty solar panels.  Once we agreed to the plan, the project manager, Kimberley was always available as a contact to answer any questions that we had.  The installation team was outstanding.  They were courteous, professional, and very hard-working.  The panels, the inverters and all of the electrical connections were installed skillfully and passed both DWP inspections the first time.
We are very pleased with REC Solar and are happy that we made the decision to convert to solar power.

I tried multiple times to contact the company to get a quote.  Methods were phone, emal, and website.  An email to Mr. Frederick after phone calls were not returned, was unanswered on April 24.

Finally after a couple weeks of attempted contact, an appointment was set for May 2, 1:00PM, but REC Solar did not arrive, nor notify me of a cancellation.  I had cancelled another appointment to meet with them.  My time is valuable.  Only after I complained to their Customer Service page on their website did Mr. Frederick call me.  He ignored 2 calls from me to the same ph# made briefly before I complained on the website.

Once on the phone, Mr. Frederick is impolite, and does not obey common business courtesy.  We want to purchase between 5kw-10kw for our home, and if that works out well, about 20kw-50kw of 460 3-ph for work.

While Mr. Frederick was on the phone, he was arrogant, unknowledgable, and demanding.

He claims REC Solar can do ground installs, but says they won't do it, no matter how much money I'm willing to spend.   He was irritated concerning the fact I did not want solar on the front building roof, and he was not interested in quoting solar on the back building, which is nearly identical in construction and southern roof area, and has better access to the grid.

"No Quote" is a perfect answer if you are not interested in a project.  This is what Mr. Frederick should have notified me of in early April.  It took almost a month to get that "no quote" and he wasted at least 3 hrs or my time at work, which is $125/hr.

Sidebar - I'm not sure Mr. Frederick sells solar power.  I believe he is selling financial packaging for rebated PV systems.  Why?  He indicated my wife should be present, and he required to see my electric bill.  Neither are actually necessary in our case.   I notified REC Solar, how much power I want, and that I was paying cash.  This apparently is not how Mr. Frederick likes to do his sales.

Keep in mind that I REALLY want REC Solar to do this project.  Costco recommends them, and I believe strongly in Costco recommendations.  I spend over $50k a year with them, and they never let me down.  But in this case REC Solar is NOT a good recommendation due to a single employee malfunction.  If I were employed at REC, Andrew would be selling time share condos tomorrow.

If somebody at REC Solar can bypass Andrew, please contact me.

They were great, they were really, really good, they worked the whole day, and didn’t charge me a penny. It’s a good product, and the proof of that is in the workmanship, it’s really top notch. If I needed to put in any more solar panels, I probably would go with them, I wouldn’t go with anyone else.

The experience turned out very well overall. The technicians always showed up when they said they would, and the system was installed on time and as they said it would. They were also very pleasant to deal with. I’ve had no problems at all with the system.
