Rainbow Autobody and Painting gave me a detailed estimate of what the job would cost. Then they suggested I contact San Luis Obisbo Colors to do part of the job and, perhaps, save some money. I saved about $1,500 by using SLO Colors first, then having Rainbow do the bigger repair work. I'd say that's service above and beyond. My car now looks brand new!

Sadly for me, this was not my first contact with this auto body repair shop. But they are wonderful and your car comes back looking like it just left the showroom. The insurance company's chosen shop had an estimated availability of 3 weeks or so out. This company had my car back in less than a week. Highly recommended.

I had a rare experience today. As I pulled into Rainbow Auto Body, I was immediately met by their manager, Chris. My 2013 Prius had developed a major leak in the hatchback. The Toyota dealer had discovered the sheet metal frame supporting the rubber gasket seal was severely tweaked. I don't recall forcing to close the hatchback on anything, but someone had thus bending the metal. I was advised to consult a body shop as their mechanics couldn't handle it.
I was prepared to leave the car, get a rental, and ante up my $500 deductible. Instead, Chris took a look, came back with a crimping tool, and bent the metal back into alignment. He then climbed into the rear, put a dollar bill above the gasket and had me shut the hatchback over him. He was checking to see how tight the seal was as he tugged on the dollar bill. Then the owner, John, walked up, and saw a few dark marks on the bumper. He left to grab a cloth with a polishing rubbing compound and tidied up my bumper. Final cost: $0. Just a handshake and a promise from my part that that they will be my go to body shop in the future.
Another perfect example how honesty and integrity creates goodwill and trust.
Way to go Rainbow!! Bruce T.

When I had a small fender bender, my auto mechanic recommended Rainbow Auto Body as the best repair shop in San Luis Obispo. The business has been around for about 25 years and has a good reputation.
I found the owner, John, to be a real professional. He quickly assessed the situation, gave me an estimate and scheduled me in for repairs. The work was done on time and to my complete satisfaction. John even arranged to have some door dings fixed while the car was in his shop (at my expense) at about half the price of what two other shops had bid.
I was also impressed with John's integrity. We chatted about how important it was to have a good reputation in a small town and how frustrating it can be for a disgruntled customer to post a negative review online, even when the business has done nothing wrong. In one case, Rainbow had a customer post a negative review on a popular website (not Angie's List) because John wouldn't help him submit a fraudulent claim to his insurance company so he wouldn't have to pay the deductible. To his credit, John refused to do it but took a hit on the review site from the unhappy cheater.
I put a high value on suppliers I can trust. Hopefully, I won't need an auto body repair shop again anytime soon, but if I do, I would not hesitate to use Rainbow again.

John looked at the bumper and said that the damage could be buffed out, which he did right on the spot for me.. He also recommended a couple of other vendors for some small work I need done. He could have told me it would be $500 to fix and I wouldn't have known any better. I hope I don't have to meet him again for business, but if I do have an accident, this is where I will take my vehicles.
Great experience. Nice to know there are still honest people out!

The first repair was extensive—$4200 worth—and it was done to perfection and on time. Even more noticeable was the professionalism and courtesy of the staff. The second was a fender scuff and a cracked bumper cover, estimated at $1400. I didn't want to replace the bumper cover and John (the owner) and Chris thought it was possible to repair it. It turned out the crack was an old one that had been repaired previously, and it was larger than it looked. The repair worked initially, but then a barely visible line appeared in the finish where the crack had been. John refused any payment, even for the perfectly repaired fender scuff, and in spite of my insistence. I'm happy with the result and I'll go back to Rainbow next time.
