I phoned various plumbers for an estimate; this company doesn't give any cost estimates over the phone. They said that the plumber would come for free and then after I heard the price I could accept or say goodbye. I chose not to get an appointment but they said they would show up probably in the next two hours, which happened. The fellow took a look and said it would be $279 so I told him that I had an estimate of $126 so he changed the estimate to $179 firm. I told him  I needed a senior's discount  and he said the cost was $149.50 plus about $29 for paperwork. I told him that was still too high so he changed it to $149.50 . I OK'd that but was quick to initial the paperwork with $149.50 written in the same box with my initials. I told him that I had  OK'd $149.50. He worked well and was competent and neat  and upon request showed me what part would need to get replaced  later on if it leaked due to age. I gave him a check for the amount rather than a credit card  because I didn't want him to change the charges. I would use him again after negotiating the price clearly.
