Shelby was responsive, easy to deal with, and did quality work. He worked with my schedule and followed through on all commitments. Very pleased with the professionalism and workmanship of Shelby and team. I will definitely use Tiger Construction for future jobs and have referred them to friends via word of mouth.

Most construction is straightforward. Contractors go by the building code, which they all know very well — better than the city, in fact. Tiger/Shelby did a great job. We have no complaints with their work.
But the city of Santa Clara is another story. We applied for permits in January, and they were finally issued this month — October! But the city building department is still making us jump through flaming hoops. They are never satisfied, and they routinely change their arbitrary rules.
We got stuck with a new employee/bureaucrat: Suzanne Park. She is absent more often than she is at work, but no one takes her place. She has already learned that she is completely unaccountable.
Suzanne will not ever make a commitment, but rather, she seems to want to reserve the right to cause us further delays at her whim. It depends on her mood, and she contradicts herself at times.
She has often been wrong in the past, and that has cost us time and money as a result. But Suzanne is totally unaccountable, and she knows it.
Apparently these bureaucrats have no superior, at least that we have been able to determine. No one takes her place when she is absent. She seems to take pleasure in causing us repeated, unnecessary delays.
We are simply adding a bedroom, but due to the city’s bureaucracy our costs and completion time are far more than we originally planned.
So to wrap up: Shelby and Tiger Construction is fine. They are very conscientious and they do very good work. But my advice is to move to another city before building an addition — unless you7're with the 49ers. Then it's all smooth sailing.

I really wanted to go with Shelby, but I was under a tight deadline to get the job started. Shelby was busy with a couple of other projects and wanted to wait a few weeks to start our job, which normally would have been OK. He also wanted to have all the material ordered and on-hand, so the project would proceed expeditiously with out delays caused waiting for materials. I can totally see his point of view, but as I was under a tight deadline to get the work started in order to finish in time for a couple of trips we had scheduled on the back-end, we ended up going with a different contractor.
I would have liked to work with Shelby and although I don't have experience of him working on our house for the actual project itself, I would recommend him for the part we did deal with him. I don't want my review to give you an impression that Shelby was inflexible, just that we wanted to sign the contract and start in a few days, and understandbly he was on other projects and couldn't start at the time we wanted to.

I am a 63 year old disabled widow. I purchased a mobile home and needed some renovations, but what Shelby Arbuckle gave me was peace of mind. Tiger Construction and Home Improvement did the renovation, and took care of me. They found and fixed many safety issues, electrical, plumbing, and structural. I know my newly renovated home is safe and secure. Tiger Construction and Home Improvement did a fantastic job with an eye to detail, Shelby seemed to read my mind and knew what I would like and need. I will use Tiger Construction again if I ever need anything done. Thanks!!

The owner Shelby was prompt in responding to my call for an estimate and was always on time when the work was started. If for any reason he was running late he notified me of his delay. Shelby always kept me up to date on the progress of the job. The crew were very neat and cleaned up after themselves before they left for the day. As suspected once the tear down was complete they found
water damage. There was some extra work that needed to be done and it did push out the completion date. Shelby is very meticulous with his work, he takes his time and makes sure the work is done right. The cost of the job did go over my budgeted price but the quality of the work made it worthwhile. Shelby is conscientious of his customers needs and he goes over and above for them, there were several extra things that he did complimentary.
Shelby and his crew were easy to communicate to and they were great to work with. The bathroom came out great! I would use them again.

Shelby came out and gave us an estimate for work we wanted done regarding remodeling a shed into a studio plus other ideas to decrease the cost of our project. He was very helpful, responsive and creative.
Response from Tiger Construction & Home Improvement Inc

"The existing shed or auxilary building is pretty badly dry-rotted and the original scope of the bid was to try and repair the existing structure. I brought to the homeowners' attention that it would be more cost effective to demolish the existing structure and purchase a new Tuff Shed directly from that company. While this suggestion takes a potential build & potential income away from Tiger Construction... Inc., it will save these folks somewhere on the order of $6,500.00 to purchase a pre-fabricated building such as the aforementioned. We have submitted a bid for finish work on the new shed. The bid amount comes to $10,471.88 and it includes: demolition & disposal of the existing structure, installation of new rough electrical for the new structure, lighting, electrical receptacles, concrete anchoring of the new structure to concrete pad, 650 square feet of both insulation & drywall, drywall taping/texturing, priming/painting the interior and installing a workbench for the interior. We are very interested in this project and hope the homeowners' award the project to us. I think it important to point out that we did not "low ball" the bid just to get our foot in the door. We put the right numbers on our Estimate Proposal, with an eye on detail so to eliminate any added costs during execution. We do not know what the other two bids came in at but we are aware that others will put out lower numbers for various reasons."

I referred Shelby to a client of mine. The main thing they needed was to have a closet built in a room (framing, sheetrock, tape, texture and prime) so that it could be advertised as a bedroom. It required moving electrical and cable plus pulling carpet back and then re-tacked and stretched. Also all of the closet doors in three other bedrooms were installed incorrectly needed to be re-installed with all new hardware and two ceiling fans had to have exposed romex sheathed to code. In addition a cable outlet was installed incorrectly and had to be moved and a dryer vent needed to be installed in the garage (a siding contractor had blocked it!).
When Shelby came to do his free estimate he noticed a gas smell in the garage coming from the dryer. The flexible hose was leaking! Insistent this was not safe (we agreed!), he went to the store that evening, came back and replaced the hose!
He noticed in the garage that there were extension cords connecting several things (not code), exposed wiring, improper water heater support, and missing fire tape on an entire wall (needed for safety and code).
Time was a factor for completion. Shelby emailed his estimate within 24 hrs (wow!) and committed to the short two week window required (another wow!). He went above and beyond working weekends and long hours. The quality of his workmanship and his professionalism far exceeded our expectation. We are grateful for his expertise and because of his diligence; the house went through the property inspection with flying colors!!
When I refer anyone it is not only their reputation on the line it is my reputation as well. I can say with confidence that I would refer Shelby again.

Shelby, the owner, was extremely patient with me as I took my time to make material and design choices. I changed my mind many, many times throughout the completion of the projects and Shelby would immediately have a change order for me which I really appreciated because it clearly spelled out how much the change would cost, how long it would take, and what the changes were.
I have had a fair amount of remodeling done on houses over the years, and Tiger Construction was the best. I have found that there are only a handful of contractors who are true professionals and talented craftsmen. Shelby is truly in a league of his own. Additionally, I was very impressed with the quality of his personnel and subcontractors.
Another thing that I have found when remodeling is that you get what you pay for. If you try to do things cheaply, the results look cheap, particularly to people such as myself who know high quality. As far high end contractors go, I believe that Tiger Construction is very well priced and an excellent value.
If you are looking for a general contractor who you can trust and have a successful working relationship with, I strongly recommend Tiger Construction.

Tiger's work is of a really high standard of quality with a very impressive attention to detail. For example, the tile work in the kitchen and bathrooms in really stunning and flawless. Additionally, every surface they painted (pretty much every paintable surface in the house), is flawless. Some people on this site mention in their reviews that Tiger's estimates were high. I feel they were worth their rates. Poor quality work is expensive to fix in the long run. Further, I had 4 total estimates for this job and Tiger's was the lowest. After working with Tiger on this big project, we got the impression that they are after not just their own bottom line, but their clientele’s best interests and you can tell they have a high level on integrity from the beginning. For instance, they spent extra time researching what products were most green and environmentally friendly for every part of the remodeling project, as we were clear from the beginning that this was really important to us. Whenever they could not find a good low-voc product that was a replacement for what they would normally use, they would let us know and were always willing to use whatever products we wanted. Further, Tiger took a lot of care to make sure our cats were safe during the period of time we were living in the home while they were working. We moved out for the majority of the time they were working on our place, and every time we stopped by to check on things it was clear the home was well secured. They made a great effort to be on time with our appointments and were in communication if they were delayed.

Shelby was very responsive and professional. I called him for an
estimate for some exterior repairs on a house we are renting. He arrived
the same day I called to provide an estimate - he even went out of his
way to drive from San Jose so I could get an estimate that same day .
He was prompt and very professional. He also seemed very knowledgeable
about what needed to be done and made good recommendations. My landlord
decided to go with another contractor but we were impressed by how
quick he responded and his professional emails to follow up on the bid.

I had called Shelby at Tiger Construction for a quote on some work that I needed done a few months prior but decided to finish the work myself. Once I got to a point where I was well out of my depth, I decided to call them back to finish the job. I had been impressed with his professionalism during the quote process (in fact, he was the only one of the companies I called to actually show up and to follow through with sending a quote).
So I called him back to get the work done to finish the first job, install the shower door, and to go ahead and fix the cracked bath tub. He had seen the bath tub during the first quote and had let me know that duct tape would do the job we needed and he was right, I just wanted to get it fixed up a little better.
He gave me a quote over the phone, we agreed to a day and time, and he showed up on time and within the budget. I highly recommend TIger Construction for their professionalism and quality of work.

An appointment was made with Shelby Arbuckle, who was very punctual. Shelby took measurements, discussed options for lumber/composite materials, and explained what the project would entail. The estimate, which arrived 9 days after his visit, provided detailed information on the items included in the final price, from demolition to drywall. Although I did not engage Tiger Construction for this job due to their estimated cost, Shelby's professionalism and attention to detail would prompt me to contact him for any future project.

He didn't come out, but he was wonderful. He gave me a lot of information and ideas. He told me that his floorman wasn't working, but he could do the floors. I don't want the floors done until everything else is done. He told me of a lady that could help me with ideas. He was really helpful. We talked for quite a while. I am going to call him back to see if he wants to give me a bid. He was terrific.

I liked their personality. He was very professional and personable. He wanted to do presentation in person to both of us. Ultimately we didn’t use him because he was a little on the high side for what we wanted to do. We had some communication issues when we actually worked. He had another big pending when we met with him. He had just started that job which was a complete home remodel. They didn’t follow up with us which could be because of that job.

In general, I'd have to say that Shelby and his crew are really easy to work with and Shelby is extremely patient and thoughtful when trying to solve all the little issues that inevitably arise doing this kind of work. The attention to detail is impressive, and Shelby is really concerned and thoughtful about the homeowner. He even spent 4 hours with me installing some appliances after the job was completely finished! The only complaint that I had in this particular job was the pace of progress during parts of the job. Shelby actually brought it up himself and apologized as well. For me, we weren't in a particular hurry; preferring to have a good job rather than a rush job, but there was a period there where things were a bit slow. That being said, my wife and I already have some plans in mind about a couple of things we'd like to do in our new house (we were remodeling our old place in preparation to rent it out) and we definitely have Shelby in mind as soon as our bank account has recovered sufficiently.

Shelby and Tiger construction were fantastic to work with. Prompt, courteous, and friendly. We didn't feel we were being 'sold' anything, and Shelby always took the time to explain everything to us and present options (both verbally and in writing). This is the way you want to be treated when you have someone in to work in your home. This great attitude extended from Shelby to his team, they were all a pleasure to work with. The work was top notch, and Shelby made a number of small improvements here and there around the house where he found simple things that needed attention (a toilet flapper not sitting right, a rear gate that didn't close smoothly). These were not related to the work we'd hired him to do, just nice things he noticed and took care of while he was at the house. We did discover one issue with the finish on the new wood flooring, and they took care of it right away, even though it meant stripping and redoing the floor. It was obviously wrong, but there was no debate over what happened or why, just an immediate 'we'll fix it'. Stuff happens. It's how you handle it that's important and Shelby was great. We found Shelby on Angie's list, and couldn't recommend him or his guys more highly. We'll definitely have them back.
