Used Angie's List to contact The Screen Shop in San Jose about bidding a job involving multiple units at an apartment building (window screens and screen doors). Sent contact message on 9/23 it is now 10/12 and I have yet to hear anything back from the vendor.

I am very pleased with the work and interaction with the personnel. The work also included a trip for them to come out and measure for the 2 new screens I needed. They were able to create screens that matched the look of the other screens and fit perfectly. If you need screens made, I recommend the investment to have them measure ensuring the end result fits. Their trip charge is very reasonable. My screen door hinges were breaking. The vendor was able to identify a way to repair the door instead of replacing the door. At the time, they knew the parts required were not available and suggested I bring the screen door in when I picked up the custom made screens. This reduced the time I had to go without the screen door. I appreciated the suggestion and fortunately I had a way to take the door to their shop myself. They also explained why the hinges were breaking to prevent future problems. When I went to the shop, whoever was there could quickly find my items and complete the payment process. They are organized, efficient and helpful. Most importantly they put the customer first in everything they do.

They did not deliver the size I wanted. There was a mistake, but other than that nothing else had stuck out about them.

Everything that they did was good. I would definitely use their services in the future too.

They are a quality company with good, solid reputation and our experience with them was good. I don’t recall how much we paid for the job. We will be using them shortly.

This family owned business has been in San Jose for decades. I received a significant discount off usual Milgard window prices. In addition the cost including installation was outstanding compared to other companies around my area who take advantage of the nouvveau riche mentality that has permeated since that "boom" took place. The installers were ON TIME. They were professional and did an outstanding job installing the two windows which were both eight feet wide, one nearly four feet tall and the other about three feet tall. They cleaned up all the mess and hauled away everything agreed upon in the contract. I will be using them again for an eight foot simple vinyl Milgard slider patio door and a large kitchen window.

It was great. They took it right away and did it and I took it home and put it in. The price was reasonable.

They are very good and I thought the price was fair.

They are a pretty great company. It is a family owned company and it is very good. Their customer service is really great, they were on time, and they finished the job in an expeditious manner. I was very satisfied with their work for a very long time. They were a little more expensive than some others but I thought it was fair and reasonable.

The Screen Shop is THE place to go for unusual needs. They stock a wide variety of fabrics and have quick turnaround at fair prices. They are a long-standing family business, a rare survivor in this franchise, chain-store world and I'm thrilled to give them business.

I discussed various screen options with the salesperson because I have dogs who tore holes in the previous screen. He recommended a type of screen that was resistant to tearing. The cost was reasonable and the screen was ready for me to pick up when promised.

Thank you Ricardo and Gilbert! They were our window installers. Why did I choose Milguard? Supreme quality, outstanding warranty, and manufacturer reputation. I did a lot of homework and personally called Milguard and shared my project with them. At the same time, I tested other manufacturers on their warranty standpoint and reliability. After four months of research and meeting with other window dealers, Milguard was ranked higher by my requirements and expectations. This is one of my big investments for the year, so I did everything to ensure my ROI was going to be solid. Most buyers would think I spent too much, but remember I also paid for their reliability....Screen shop is in San Jose and an authorized dealer and repair shop. Most of the other window companies haven't been around too long to stand behind their products and services. So think about it. Should I call these other window companies that advertise through the postal junk mail? H*** NO! Beware of them. I had gone through the agony of meeting with them and listening to all their fear factor sales pitch. Based on my review, each sales rep is not an installer. They talk a big game, but never actually did any hands on work. They'll bring out several window samples and use every trick in the sales book to get you to write that first check. Don't give them the time and day - especially when they stress about how their "discounted" price is the best in the market. I got so irritated by their "its 20% off only for today" statements - they work on commission. Most importantly, these reps are working for outside general contractors -which means that you're not getting any technical support if something happens to your new windows. You'll be on your own getting the window manufacturer to assist you.

I had an estimate for a new screen door one day after my call. The representative came with a detailed book of the available options and prices The repairman arrived on time, had to do some extra work for the screen to fit the area (for which there was no extra charge) and completed the job in less than two hours. I was impressed with the professionalism and capability of the installer. The screen door fits well, looks great and is very functional. I would definitely use The Screen Shop again.

They did great work but were a little pricey.

We decided to go with The Screen Shop as we didn't like the look and feel of the ones available at Home Depot or Lowes. John came out and measured for our screens and noted that we needed a rush job as we were hosting a party less than 2 weeks from the date he measured. He wasn't sure if they would be able to make them all in time but in the end we actually received the screens 4 days before the party. We had them delivered and my husband installed them and so far - approx 3 weeks - we're very happy with them. Great service and prices for custom screens.

All work was done very well and on schedule. The estimator and installers were friendly and professional. My kids enjoyed watching the work done and the installers were very careful of their safety.

The window looks great. From the start, we were pleased with the detailed information and options explained by the salesperson. (It's a family owned company, we worked with the son.) We had not learned much at other companies. They were one of the few that would install a single window (many had minimum of six or more.) Installation was four weeks after we ordered the window. We called to confirm the install date. The installation went quickly. We asked them to give us a call before they arrived, but unfortunately that didn't happen. (It was okay, by the time we arrived to let them in, they were setup.) The two installers had the old window panes and frame cut out, and the new window installed in about 1.5 hours. They trimmed the exterior finish so the window doesn't have a larger frame. They were very clean and efficient. The installer was great about answering all of my questions. We hope to use them when we replace other windows. They were recommended by family who used them in 2000.

The installer arrived close to the pre-arranged time. He completed the work ahead of time. He was very clean, tidy, and flexible of our wishes to modify one part of the install. Pricing was average, not high and not low, right in the middle. Contractor's estimates on timing were right on target. Great to work with.

Overall, we are very happy with our windows. One big problem was that main window (living room) was the wrong design. Pane had to be reordered and replaced, which was of concern to me. Window seems fine after correct pane was installed about a week later. I feel order should have been checked in the first place by someone (Sales Rep., Installer, or ?) before being put in. So, unfortunately, instead of a solid A, I rate them closer to a B+.

Very experienced and honest. Even suggested a tougher screen because we have a pet who scratches on the screen. Adjusted one handle with no charge.

The company has everything you can imagine for screen doors. Their customer service is very helpful. They took a lot of time for me and were very helpful. The part I purchased didn't amount to much dollar wise, however all their costs depend on the part or replacement needed. I was happy with my overall experience with this company.
