After deciding to re-pipe my 42-year-old two-story house with copper, I obtained estimates from three different plumbers, and while all had high ratings on Angie's List and appeared imminently qualified to do the work, I decided to use "The Neighborhood Plumber". During the estimate Dean takes a detailed look through your house to estimate where the pipes and drains are located in the walls and then sits down and writes an estimate on the spot. Dean Lanoie describes what the work entails, how many workers he'll be using, as well as the fact that they lay down tarps and clean everything up when they are done. He particularly mentioned that they would be using "L" pipe, and I asked if was "better" than something else. His immediate answer was "No, but I'm not a good salesman. Some of the other re-pipe outfit's salesmen will sell 'L' pipe because it is more expensive, and I've given up trying to explain to people that they don't need it." He further indicated that "L" is for outdoor use, and has a longer life rating than the indoor pipe. He provided references the same time he gave the estimate. In fact, while we were standing in my driveway, Dean said that my street name sounded familiar and he realized that he had done a re-pipe down the street a few months earlier. He then looked up the paperwork for that family and provided their name and number on-the-spot. That shows confidence in your work and I believed that this was definitely not a prearranged reference (that family was very pleased with the work of Dean and his crew). Dean and his crew have what appears to be a unique approach to performing a re-pipe on a house. Whereas the other two estimates were for 3-5 days and 5-7 days of work respectively, Dean estimates that they can do the plumbing work in one day, with one or two extra days for repairing the drywall back to it's original state. The crew starts about 7:00am and works until they are done. For my house, seven plumbers were set to work on various parts of the house in parallel. Near the end of the day, the plumbers who had finished their areas began helping out in other areas. Many areas of the house were finished early enough that the drywall patching was begun on the first day, and only part of a second day was needed to finish the texturing of the drywall. They also replaced my gas water heater with a new water heater. The original out-of-the-wall connection was somewhat unaesthetic, so Dean personally replaced the steel pipe with a more modern flexible pipe; replacing the water heater was not part of the original estimate, but Dean accommodated my last minute request with no trouble at all. The work was performed just as described, and the drywall expertly matched the original texture at the end of the process. The crew cleaned up well. In the end, about a week after the work is complete, Dean comes by and checks that everything is working, that the drywall is satisfactory and that there are no leaks.

We were pretty impressed. They put in new pipes for the whole house and we had galvanized steel pipes. The plumber was very professional and courteous. He got everything done within the time frame specified by him. I was very happy with the results. I will definitely use their services in the future and I have recommended him to my neighbor as well.

He basically came in, did an estimate and he was actually able to come in and do the work before he thought he would be able to. He was also right on budget. He was a great guy to work with. He was very, very nice. He was very inexpensive and I would definitely use him again. I was absolutely satisfied with him. He did a great job.
