We had a very good experience with South Bay. Ours was a big job, demo and re landscaping a large back yard with water wise plants. Due to weather this spring we had to wait to get started, but once on the job it went smoothly and fast. Workers were really great and respectful. Matt was easy to work with and consulted us on issues he saw as a problem. Overall, very good.

South Bay was recommended to me by the person who did my garden design (Julie Orr). Matt from South Bay was flexible and responsive - he met with me and reviewed the plan, and together we made a few changes. I wanted to select and purchase and plant the plants myself, and he was flexible in letting me do that. He was sensitive to the demands of the Homeowners Association for my condominium complex.
Because there was no exterior access to my patio, all materials and the workers themselves had to go in and out through my townhouse; they put down lots of protection and kept everything clean. With three workers, they completed all of the work in a couple of days with minimal impact on me. Matt made a point of calling a few days later to see how if there were any problems (there weren't). I love my new patio and garden!

We used Julie Orr's Express Design service to draw up a plan for our backyard, and then (eventually) started looking for landscapers to help us implement the parts we didn't want to try doing ourselves. Matt came out originally to give us an estimate on the irrigation only. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, and offered several suggestions on our plans that we hadn't considered. We asked him to give us a price on the full plan as well, and ended up deciding to have him implement the whole thing for us.

We went back and forth on the estimate a few times to get everything exactly the way we wanted it (e.g. my wife didn't want any chemical herbicides added to the soil, which they accommodated). The work started a few weeks later. They cleared the weeds and dug out the area for the paver patio and laid out the design of the paths and watering zones. After getting our approval that it was how we wanted it, they installed the patio, paths, irrigation and built the raised beds. We then had them build an arbor over the patio. We wanted to put some large hammocks up, which required a wider spacing between the posts than originally planned, but they worked with us and gave us exactly what we wanted. They then coordinated with Julie Orr to get all the plants we wanted and confirm the layout. Once those arrived, they planted everything and set up all the watering.

We are incredibly happy with the final product. We got several estimates and theirs was on the lower end overall (some individual things were more expensive than their competitors, but the overall total was one of the lowest), which given the high quality of their work makes them quite a bargain. Matt was great about texting, emailing or calling to keep us updated, and gracefully accommodated several changes we made mid-project. The workers were friendly, efficient, and respectful of our property, always cleaning up the site when they were finished for the day. A few of the new plants did not survive, but they came out and immediately replaced them.

Very well. The crew was always on time and worked hard and if needed, stayed late to get everything done. Matt is a great communicator and listens to what you want and what you can afford to spend. They stayed within our budget and finished the project by the date promised.
