The eaves of my house were in bad shape. It was recommended by the carpenter, who was planning that job, that the roofing over the eaves would have to be removed, so that he could be sure that he was removing all the rotten eaves. He recommended R. J. Bean Roofing, having worked with him previously. R. J. came and looked over the roof, noticed that the roofing job my husband and sons had done 25 years ago was put on over the original roof. He informed me that the frame of my house could not hold more weight, so putting on another layer of roofing was not an option. I surmised that the roof would have to be redone soon, and the improvements that R. J. recommended, such as eyebrow vents, would help prevent mold and rot later on.
I'm so glad I hired R. J. and followed his recommendations. R. J. got the permits needed. He brought in a crew to remove the present roof. They were very efficient and brought in a truck to dump the old roofing into and picked up anything that had broken off into the yard. They also realized, which I did not, that the garage roof was composed of boards that would let pieces of crumbling roofing fall through, so they put tarps over the items in my garage, and gathered them up afterward, along with the debris that had come through. Then the carpenter, Alex Potter, and R. J. began their respective jobs. R. J. was very good at communicating when he would be at my house, so there were no surprises. He was very organized as to when supplies would be delivered, and when payment was needed for various contractors and supplies, and how much the job would cost. When the carpenter had finished, and R. J. could put on the finishing touches and the gutters were installed, R. J. arranged for the inspector and accompanied him, so that I did not need to worry.
R. J. is a very organized, professional, and knowledgeable craftsman and takes pride in a job well done. I would be happy to recommend him to anyone. Having a roof replaced is not a quiet job, but R. J. and his contractors had all the work done as quickly as possible, so that the inconvenience was minimal.
