Oscar's Expert Tree Service

The street tree in front of my house seemed to be in bad shape, so I hired Oscar's Expert Tree Service to remove it. I contacted them and Bob Wilson (arborist) came out to access the work. He provided a competitive bid for the work. The Underground Utilities group (USA) was contacted and they reviewed the area. I obtained a permit from the city. Oscar's Tree Service arrived around 7:30am and started working right away. The tree was removed quickly, and the branches pruned from the other trees. Their chipper truck came out later to chip the branches and provide mulch for the removed tree. They cleaned up the area very well.

It went very well. They arrive fully equipped, communicated to assure knowledge of the exact result I desired. Then they did the job I expected and cleaned up as well as was reasonable.

Oscar was very responsive when I requested a quote-- he texted me literally within minutes of my request. He came to my home to thoroughly evaluate the trees and define the required scope of work, unlike many other companies that developed estimates based solely on photos texted to them. His price to do the work was reasonable and competitive. I was impressed that he brought copies of his state contractors license and workers compensation insurance certificate. The crew arrived 15-30 minutes early and performed the work efficiently -- much quicker than I had anticipated -- while Oscar provided supervision to ensure quality control. All trimmings were cleared off the yard & sidewalk then placed neatly curb-side for the weekly City pickup.

They were on time, friendly, and extremely efficient. They removed the stump, cleaned up the debris, and did a great job for a very reasonable price. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing a tree removed.

They did exactly what we wanted.  They removed the debris and left the front and back yards cleaned.

A 5-man crew showed up promptly at 8:00a  on the day scheduled with all equipment and tools required.  An experienced and extremely skilled climber set his safety line and tag line high in the cedar tree always insuring he was in a safe and secure position.  At this point, assisted by his ground crew, he began to systematically dismantle the tree using the "eating the elephant one bite at a time" method.  Large branches were cut piece by piece and safely lowered with the gag line.  When the branches were safely lowered to the ground, they were then carried by other members of the team to the chipper to be shredded for recycling.  One man with a chain saw and strategic cutting reduced this massive tree to a one foot high stump, while operating in tight confines, surrounded by structures, without the slightest damage.  The team worked quickly, efficiently, and safely to accomplish in one day the removal of all the trees except for ten feet of trunk on the last ash tree.  Before they left for the day, they cleaned up the work areas, including roofs that had caught leaves and small branches.  They then parked the chipper and tow truck in a place that would not interfere with neighbor parking or activities.Before leaving for the day, they insured that any debris left on the street was picked up and all work areas were clean.  Sections of the cedar trunk were left to the following day to be loaded as well as the final ash tree trunk to be cut down.  A three-man crew showed up at 8:00 the following day and loaded the trunk sections and finished the last ash tree.  They then went through the entire work area and cleaned-up the debris and inevitable mess from the job.  Stump grinding was delayed a few days until a contractor could locate utility lines that were buried under the stumps but when this was done, an experienced worker came promptly with his equipment and ground the cedar stump and extensive network of ground roots to 12" below grade.  The ash tree stumps were ground next without any issues.  The team from Oscar's all exhibited experience and skill, working quickly and efficiently to get the work done and insure that the work was satisfactory.  I was impressed with how hard they worked.  One thing was frustrating in that no-one on the crew could speak english and it made communication difficult.  We did manage to work through it. and avoid any misunderstandings.

Javier responded right away to my initial email. He stopped by the house to give an estimate earlier than anticipated because he was working close by.  He gave me a lot of good advice on how to deal with the requests I had (whether to trim or remove trees, what to plant in the backyard, etc.).  I had done some homework and felt comfortable that the estimate he gave me was very reasonable.  He and his team showed up on time and got right to work.  It was a big project and they worked really hard to get it done in one day.  They did a great job with clean-up, Javier even asked me to close the sliding glass door while they were doing some of the work so dust wouldn't get into the house.  I appreciated the thoughtfulness.  After they left, I noticed they had cleared away an old tree stump that was there from a tree that had blown over during a storm.  I hadn't specifically asked them to do that for me and thought it was very nice of them.  The crew was polite and courteous the entire time they were there.  I couldn't be more thrilled with the job they did and will call them again any time I need work done.  I highly recommend Javier and his crew.

It took a couple of tries to get through to Javier. But once i did he was very responsive, showing up for an estimate within 24 hours and completing the job within one week.  His team was very professional and thorough.

I called them on behalf of our HOA for an estimate and Javier showed up on time exactly when he said he would.  One guy didn't even bother to show up and another guy came and never followed up with a written estimate.
His price was competitive and he honored the 10% off coupon on Angie's List.  
One of our neighbors wanted additional work done that had never been discussed before.  Considering the circumstances, I thought they handled themselves very well and performed the additional work for a reasonable extra cost.   I felt like they tried very hard to make sure we were satisfied.  I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs their trees trimmed.  We will definitely call them first whenever we need our trees trimmed again.

We were very happy with the entire experience and will use them again.  Gus contacted us within hours of our initial attempt to reach him.  He agreed to come out to the house on a Sunday to look at the work.  He had lots of great ideas and suggestions, then gave us a price on the spot.  He followed up with a written quote via email later that afternoon and told us he had a crew available to do the work the next day. 
Neither one of us was here during the actual work.  By the time we got home from work later that day all of the work was completed and the yard looked as good as it ever has, completely clean.  The work was very well done, exactly as Gus said it would be.  Gus even gave us a few suggestions about some problem areas.  (He easily could have suggested another option that would have required lots more expense on our part.)
We contacted two other services.  Oscar's was professional, and provided expert service at the best price.

Previously, I hired him to remove dead tree and two other trees (one for free). Then, I realized the soil is exposed to the air and I request to get some mulch to cover up the lawn at the back yard. Oscar promised he will give me a truck when he have some mulch or chips. He did fulfill the promise and give a truck of mulch.

1. it was great, he listen to my concern: 
2. cut the tree in 2/3 days, including cleanup.
3. he gave me some bonus, by trimming some bush or tree branches.
4. also, he clean the roof's fallen leaves for me as well.  
    (didn't realize until I went up to the roof and try to clean some leaves).
5. he also promise to give me some wood chips later on to cover
    some dry/blade grounds. (looking forwards to it)

Immediate response to my request for a quote and punctual arrival to do the work.  Skilled crew and good equipment to perform the work to my satisfaction.

He was a five across the board. He was there everyday to drop in and make sure things were going right. From day to day he either had a crew of three or four and sometimes just a couple guys. The only glitch was one of his grinders broke that he was going to use, but he was very professional about telling me it had broken down and that the particular two trunks he needed to take out he would do within five days. He calls to let you know he is coming. I gave him a small deposit but he did not want the payment until he was absolutely done. He was really good. His price was right in line with other people but he did a little bit more so I would say his prices are quite reasonable.

It rained Thursday morning so the crew came in the late afternoon.  They called to say they were coming later.  Our roof is composed of metal shingles that dent easily.  Their principal tree trimmer was very careful - very skilled - and cut the tree sections so as not to dent the shingles.   Perfect job.   The trimming on the other side of our house was also done very skillfully.  The trimmer person used safety harnesses and ropes.  They were very good about cleaning up (blowing the leaves off the roof and the grounds.  

I have "no don'ts".   We will hire them again in an instant.
