We needed to replace the flooring in our kitchen and had a consult with Ed at Murison's. Ed is friendly and quite knowledgeable, helped us go through our options, and gave us a sample to take home once we had made a preliminary decision on the material. He followed up with a visit to inspect and measure to discuss installation options. The installation was fast and easy with quality results. The best part is my wife is happy!

Ed Lacina came out and did a thorough eval and review of the work to be performed. His staff presented a wide variety of samples to choose from including some Naturcor brand thick sheet vinyl. Material was selected and order was placed 1/26/2017. Installation commenced on 2/27/2017 after several reschedules. Tear out of the old vinyl and underlayment went ok, but no effort was made to mitigate the dust created and the tracking of debris in and out of the house. Tear out and new underlayment was accomplished on the first day by a two person crew. The second day brought in a new lead person and the same helper to lay the new flooring. The vinyl was not cut evenly and was not tucked under the carpet join areas properly. Also, a few of the cuts around the cabinets did not finish with the vinyl up against the cabinet wall. This ment that when the baseboards were reapplied, some gaps exist between the vinyl and the baseboard. The crew then stated that they were not equipped to place the metal strips covering the carpet to vinyl transitions and another "carpet" person would have to come out another day to finish the job. The sub-floor and underlayment squeaks in several places. After two days of delay, the carpet person came to place the metal transitions, believing he was doing a bathroom to hallway transition strip. He then had to go buy additional material to complete the job. He did not cut the strips to fully contour to the walls and his first layout of the strips featured odd angles at the 90 degree joints. After providing him a large L square, he came closer to making a 90 degree joint, but left the point of the joint with an opening that is a toe stubb and cut danger. He also left some carpet strands sticking out from a section that is not fully seated. When I called Ed and asked if he was going to come out and do a quality control check/final inspection, he was non-committal and has not come out a week later. To top the process off, Ed had the credit card info on file from the prepayment for the material and charged the rest of the job without any additional communication with us.

The owner, Ed Lacina, came to the house to provide the estimate. He inspected the existing flooring, discussed options for replacement, and provided me with three estimates for different flooring options. The estimates were: A) Laminate flooring: $2,800 B) L V T flooring (midgrade): $3,200 C) L V T flooring (high grade): $3,475 The prices included floor prep, removal and disposal of existing flooring, removal and reset of furniture and appliances, and installation of new baseboard through the kitchen and family room. The flooring chosen was a high grade L V T in a marble pattern that fit the room perfectly. The materials arrived within two weeks and installation was scheduled approximately three weeks from the date of the estimate. The house resident had removed the furniture before the installer got there, so he got right to work. The job took 1.5 days to complete, and the installer was very friendly and professional. The resident didn't let him reset the furniture because she wanted me (the homeowner) to come inspect the flooring first. I didn't get a price break even though the furniture movement was included in the price of the job, but that's fair given the contract was firm fixed price. The flooring was installed to specifications and greatly improved the look of the room. The baseboards added a nice accent to the room given there were none prior to this installation. Although I'm not going to have the work done at this time, per my request, Mr. Lacina also gave me estimates to replace the carpet in the living room, dining room, and master bedroom. Like the family room/kitchen area, these are large rooms and the prices for that work were quite reasonable.
Description of Work: Murison's replaced the flooring in my family room and kitchen including replacing the linoleum with vinyl tiles and installed baseboard throughout the two rooms.

Run away. The hardwood flooring was delivered after about 4-5 weeks delay for manufacturing, and the installation was scheduled for the following week. They installed the hardwood over a day and a half and seemed to do a thorough job. Several weeks later the hardwood began to cup (curl up at the edges). I notified them of the problem, and they sent out an inspector. The owner (Ed Lacina) has now spent months delaying and telling me the problem is with the house. He has tried to claim the problem is ground moisture, but if you live in San Jose, you'll know not only is that the driest part of the year, but there was *NO* precipitation whatsoever. . As a comparison, all of the other hardwood on the ground floor has been perfect, for over a decade (with the exact same conditions). He has offered no resolution whatsoever and simply delays and delays while claiming to want to resolve the situation. Murison, and Ed Lacina in particular, has been absolutely useless to deal with and I would recommend finding any other flooring professional if you expect to receive any after sales service.
Description of Work: Remove existing carpeting and replace with solid hardwood flooring in approximately 800 sq. feet of the main floor of the house (living room and dining room) . They came to the house to evaluate the installation, measure and provide a detailed quote, including trim pieces. The rest of the main floor already had hardwood flooring.

Response from Murison's Flooring America
The materials and installation were not at fault - Evidence of moisture has been determined as the cause per an independent factory authorized inspector. Until the homeowner takes action to resolve this replacement of the material will subject to the same outcome. A request to meet with a water mitigation expert was not done. I had responded with comments from a leading industry expert and never heard back from the member.
