Basically, my repair and remodeling work went in this order: tear-off, frame repair, plywood sheathing application, new window installation, re-flashing, roofing underlayment, stucco replacement, roofing and gutter completion, re-painting. Thus, as you can see, the stucco replacement step came close to the end. However, for the resulting exterior to function properly as a structural element, weather and moisture barrier, and aesthetic improvement, it's necessary for all of the parts to integrate effectively as a system. There can be more to this than meets the eye. As my ratings show, I'm very happy with the quality of the moisture barrier, lath, and stucco that M&M's team installed for me. But the value I received derived not only from the stucco work itself. I also benefitted from a great deal of professional advice and friendly support generously given to me by Mike McCullough, M&M's owner -- which he didn't have to give. Beginning many weeks (months) before the house was ready for stucco application, Mike provided advice regarding the best way to prepare the structures that were eventually to receive new stucco. He provided direction and encouragement, helped me avoid many problems, and saw to it that I achieved what I had set out to achieve. His advice was essential to achieving the proper "system integration" about which I spoke earlier. Frankly, without Mike's support, patience, and accommodation (and similar from several other individuals), I'd have fallen flat on my face and my house would have ended up without an exterior for the winter months. When I finally had everything ready, Mike's team got to work right away on the moisture barrier and stucco lath. I was amazed at how quickly this part of the stucco installation went (took about a day and a half with one very skilled worker) and how great a job the installer (Mike's step-son) did. He had all the right equipment and supplies as well as the necessary expertise. He was able to work around a number of problems I had inadvertently created (due to my inexperience). It's a good thing he was able to work so efficiently, because the fall rainy season began that very evening! I should mention that he also left the work area very clean. A different part of Mike's team then applied the new stucco, in several layers and over several days (due to curing constraints). These people did a beautiful job as well. I was especially pleased at how well they handled the border between new stucco and old stucco -- very smooth, no evidence of a step or edge left. Similar attention was given to many other little details. Even before paint was applied, the house looked great. And, once again, their ability to get the job done efficiently was crucial, considering that rain was already falling and winter was soon to come. Of course, when all was done, Mike personally came by to inspect the work and to make sure I was happy with it. The bottom line is that I'm very happy with the work done by M&M Lathing, a very professional, experienced team specialized in all phases of stucco installation. I have no hesitation in recommending them. And: my special thanks to Mike McCullough, the owner, for all personal attention given to the overall success of my project.
Description of Work: In 2001 I removed the stucco from about 30% of the exterior surface of my home, in order to remediate termite and water damage to the structure. After the structural repairs and upgrades were complete, it was necessary to have new moisture barrier, stucco lath, and stucco applied, properly interfaced to areas where the old stucco was still present. The quality of the work has a major impact on both the appearance of the house and the resistance to water penetration. I hired M&M Lathing to make sure a good job was done on all of these stucco-replacement steps. M&M Lathing was recommended to me by my roofer, Bill Hamilton Roofing (also an excellent service provider).
