They did an excellent job. The floor has been down for 40 some years and has never been finished. I was not here to answer any questions because of my breathing problems, and they still did a great job. My little dog likes it.

His estimate was very competitive. He was very clear about costs and emailed clear invoices and estimates. He gave the exact amount of time it would take and stuck to it. Ken and his brother did the work and both were polite and hard working. The quality of the work was exceptional.

I had Ken remove all carpeting through our house and removed two layers of vinyl in kitchen and family room. Since I live out of state I wasn't there to watch the progress. But the end result is amazing. The 40 year old wood floors look new. The new flooring looks great too. He really gave this older house new life. He made the process so easy, very professional. His quotes were very detailed and he responded quickly to all my questions. Can't say enough good things about his business.

We would recommend Ken to others - he was not back logged with work like the other companies who bid and did a great job.

Ken was panctual and very responsive. He completed pretty much everything in time.  There were couple of minor things, probably forgot to do.  But when I asked him, he completed them immediately.
Overall, I was satisfied with his work.

The carpet in our dining room and especially the hallway was showing its age, worn and stained.  Our cleaning service checked underneath, finding hardwood in fairly good condition.  At our request they removed he carpeting.  We called Ken's Hardwood Floor Service and got a price per square foot.  I had measured the area to be refinished and calculated the cost.  Ken and I set a time for him to look at the floor. He also measured and got a slightly different area but accepted my measurements.  After discovering that it would require at least 3 days work, we settled on 8 AM on the Monday after Thanksgiving.  Ken and an assistant actually arrived arrived about 15 minutes early.  They did some minor repairs, removed any remaining staples, and filled any holes. After that they began the sanding and staining process.  This required 3 coats, one each day.  As part of the job they also replaced a board in the hallway, installed a reducer between the hallway and entry hall tile, and put in two pieces joining the hardwood floor to the vinyl floor in the kitchen.  Ken mentioned that the floor color in the hallway would be slightly different than in some of the bedrooms but we can see no difference (untrained eyes?). The floor looks great and we are quite satisfied.
Here are some additional comments.  We didn't realize how noisy, dusty, and smelly the job would be, especially on the first day. You may also need to think ahead about getting things out of the rooms which you may not be able to access for something like twelve hours or more.

I desperately needed someone to do about 2/3 of my hardwood floors in a narrow time window before renters moved in. One guy bailed and the other I contacted was too expensive.Ken called me back immediately, was very communicative (called to verify appt, and start time, etc.).  Was on time evertime (actually even early for the start day!) His estimated pricing was on his website so the quote was no surprise. Did my floors on a F/Sa/Sun, very little dust. Floors look great. Definite strong recommend.

Ken and his worker refinished the floors.  They did the job in the alloted time.  They did the job with hardly any dust.
Ken was willing to use the quality product that I had researched which was better than the products that everyone was bidding on.Not all would use it.  maybe because it was more complicated.
The product  they used was Dura- Seal Xterra.  It's a 2 part system, like epoxy.
Ken was willing to put an extra coat and to stain before the sealer was on.  He would do it anyway I wanted.

I called Ken around April 24th 2012 the first time through Angie's List. He was very prompt and immediately came for a quote. He was meticulous and measured the entire work area inch by inch and provided me a detailed estimate which included removal and dumping of old floor, installing new floors and cleanup/polishing. I was on a very tight budget so a couple of months went by while I was just debating whether to spend this much or not. I contacted Ken after a lot of discussion with my spouse and again every time I tried to reach him, after gaps too, he was very prompt at responding back. We decided on the price, time and date of start and closed a contract. He came with his brother and who was also very very skilled and innovative. Ken is by the books and his brother is practical and more creative in arriving at solutions to problems they faced. Both delivered on their promise and did a fantastic job with my flooring. I have put before and after pictures for you but since both involved hardwood floors it may be difficult for you to judge. For me I was very happy. After last day when they finished and left, there was a tiny piece near my curtains unfinished and I emailed Ken since we noticed around 9:30 pm on Friday night. He was bang on and promptly spoke to me over the phone and came back the next day and finished it even though it was weekend and Saturday and I had paid all the money owed to him. Now that's what I call true customer service and caring for the job you did.I trust Ken and would highly recommend him. I don't know yet how I can attach pictures here but once I figure that out with show you the before and after pictures.
One advice I want to put for all folks who deal with contractors: All of them are very eager and worried the first day you start work with them. They have already given you a price and time and they are worried whether they will be able to make it by then to meet their commitments and margins. Once you give them a little bit of time and space they go a long way to do the best for the job on hand. If on the first day, first few hours you can handle them without fuss, your project will end on a happy note. So advice is don't come out strong on the very first day to them.

When I first spoke to Ken on the phone, I had some difficulty with his accent.  However, when he came to the house to give a quote I had no problem understanding him in person.  He was prepared and gave me a written estimate on the spot (many other people I had give estimates needed to get back to me 2-4 days later).  Ken's price was the best, and as he had great reviews on Angie's list I trusted that he would do a good job.  Ken was on time every morning.  The first day he spent sanding and repairing floors and applying the first coat.  The morning of the second day, I discovered an area where a stain was showing thru.  I left Ken a note and by the time I got home, he had already replaced the boards.  He said the spot wasn't visible prior to adding the stain, which I would agree with.  So he applied additional coats of finish on the second and third days.  Additionally, on the third day, he sanded down the baseboards which we were reusing and applied finish to those boards - they look like new. He also put in trim by our doors.  Our overall experience was great and we are very pleased with the results.

Ken promptly responded to my request for quote and showed up exactly when he said he would. He arrived promptly to complete job and ensured that there was little or no dust created in the rest of the house when he sanded the flooring. The finished product is beautiful - I wish that he had done the floors in the rest of my house!

Ken gave us the lowest price including both a discount for being Angie's list members and seniors. He promised to start the work on Tuesday the 14th. He phoned on Saturday the 11th and asked if he could start on Monday. I am retired so I was pleased to get it started early. His original estimate was that the work would take 4 days. He and his crew showed up promptly ready to go to work. I have a bad back and asked if he could help me move one piece of furniture out of the den. They moved it for me. The work was completed on Tuesday, only taking two days. Everything was clean and finished beautifully, and they moved that one piece back into the den. I did make a mistake in that I didn't remove some pictures from a wall in another room. Vibrations from the hammer they used to install the flooring jarred a picture off the wall. I was lucky nothing was broken.

I found him on Angie's list, and couldn't believe how good his recommendations were, but, in fact, he did just as the other evaluations explained. He was very professional, provided a fair estimate, brought his crew on site at the time promised, worked diligently to complete the job in the time frame agreed, did more work than expected, and the result is better than imagined. I couldn't be happier with the work he and his crew did for me. I've already recommended his to four friends. Thank goodness for Angie's List for the recommendations listed for Ken!

Ken's team arrived early on the day scheduled and quickly set to work. We discovered extensive termite damage to the floor in one room. Ken provided an estimate for repair on the spot and his team matched the existing hardwood so you would never know it was not the original flooring. The price was reasonable. All work was done on time. The house was left clean. It looks great. I was very satisfied.

We had to get a section of our hardwood floor removed due to termite damage and priced out 3 different companies highly reviewed on Angie's List. We ended up going with Ken because he was the lowest priced and he had a few ideas of how to best match the color. Although he wanted to stain the entire room in order to get a better match, we decided not to since we would be putting a rug in the area anyways. The match is great and you can hardly tell what is new and what is original (over 6o years difference!). Ken was on-time every single day he worked with us which is important since we had to go to work shortly after he arrived. He got the job done earlier than expected, kept the house very clean in the process and he and his crew were all very polite. I would use him again if we ever needed hardwood floors touched up again.

We were on a short timeline to move into our new house, and needed to refinish the hardwood floors in two bedrooms. I called Ken's and he was able to come give me an estimate the same day. Ken arrived prompty at his scheduled time, and provided us an estimate that was very reasonable. He was also able to start the work the next morning. His crew arrived the next morning on time, and got right to work. He informed us of the process they would take, and his crew was clean and respectful of our home. surprisingly, we really didn't notice much (if any) dust during the work, or even after the job was competed. They came the next day to put on the final finish coat (again, right on time), and the floors turned out beautifully. I would not hesistate to use Ken's again. As a side note, I also called Clark's Hardwood, who is also highly rated on Angie's List, and they gave us a phone estimate that was $500 more and they were not going to be able to start work for another week and a half.

I found Ken on Angieslist with 14 ratings of all "A". He showed up "exactly on time" to review my floor and give me a quote. The price was fair ($600) for the above work. We scheduled for an 8:30am start two days after I called him to award him the contract and he and his one worker (been with Ken for 10 years) showed up 15 minutes before the scheduled start time (I really appreciate contractors who show up on or slightly before the scheduled start time as it shows respect for a persons time), They first did some spot sanding where I had some scratches and old water marks, then pulled out their large walk-behind rotary sander (using #220 grit sanding material) which removed any remaining old polyurethane and roughed up the surface so that the new coat of polyurethane would adhere well. They then vacuumed and hand wiped the floor to remove any remaining dust then applied the polyurethane by poring a 3" bead from the can along the length of the floor, then spreading it out with a three foot wide foam-like handled wedge to give a smooth and bubble-free layer. The oak steps from the landing to the formal dining room were all cleaned, sanded and polyurethane coated by hand. Ken and his worker also helped us move a very heavy china cabinet and agreed to come back the next morning at 8:30am to help my son and I return it to its location, after the flooring had fully dried the recommended 12+ hours. Ken also hung yellow and black caution tape across all the doorways as a "reminder" to not enter the area. The entire job was completed in less than two hours. Ken and his worker were both very professional, easy to talk to and paid close attention to details while applying the polyurethane to ensure full coverage. As I write this, the floor is "wet" and they just left, but if, when dry, it looks even close to as it does wet, it looks better than when originally installed. I can strongly recommend Ken to anyone wanting to have their hardwood floors professionally cleaned and refinished with a fresh topcoat of polyurethane.

We found Ken on Angies list and he lived up to all the amazing comments on his listing. Ken's Hardwood Floor Service is a small, quality family run business. We called him on Saturday and he came out on Sunday to provide an estimate; we chose him on the spot. ( we had also called others) We were very impressed from the start. We felt like we were his most important client. He was prompt- on the dot both for the estimate and for the job. It is true that the work was almost completely dustless which was amazing because the rest of the house was fully furnished- and we still had clothes in the closet of the room he worked in. The finished floors make the house look and feel new. We were very pleased with the work, the quality and the customer service provided by Ken's Hardwood Floor Service.

We recently moved into a 50 y/o home where the hardwood floor, which had been covered by carpet, was full of paint, water damage etc. We used angie's list to find someone that would be able to restore our floors. I was looking for someone that owned their own company rather than going with a big corporate business; Ken's reviews were good and so we scheduled a meeting. He was very prompt for the both the free estimate and for each work day. He and his fellow worker were very unimposing, quiet and worked diligently. The work was completed in three days and our floors look absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! All are neighbors have commented on how nicely they came out. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work that needed to be done and he even fixed our hallway free of charge when unexpected water damage was noted after the sanding. Communication issues have been mentioned in past reviews but i have to say that i had no problems understanding him. Great workmanship; I would highly recommend him to anyone.

They are state licensed. He is Vietnamese, so it is a little hard to understand him over the phone and it was fine working with him, especially face to face. He is very nice and I would use him again. He was honest, prompt and he said he would be there at 8.30 in the morning and he was there at 8.29. He brought a couple of workers and they got right to it and they ticked off the area to keep it safe because it was a 2 day process. He gave me 2 price break downs for refinishing the entire floor and for just doing the patches. I appreciated that he was upfront that by doing the patches, it would be lighter than the rest of the floor and also gave us options. He had to replace 18 inches square of hardwood of each place. My overall experience with him was really good.

Ken was very responsive to our phone calls and very pleasant when he provided the estimate. We had to postpone the schedule a bit and he was very accommodating of this. We had to be out of the house for 4 days while the work was being done, and all the furniture had to be removed from the rooms (of course). When we returned, the floors looked beautiful from eye level, although there were some very light spots on the floor, but he had told us he would be sanding out some gouges and that the color would come up to match the rest of the floors in a while, so that was fine. Upon further inspection, however, we discovered a lot of sand grit, dirt, and even hair that had been varnished over (big sandpaper grit, like you would snag your stockings on it). The floors that were to be refinished had not been cleaned before the varnish was applied, and there were splashes of varnish on several walls (which he offered to fix, if we had the paint to paint over them). The varnish was very thin and the surface of the floors was quite rough because of it. We were very disappointed. So we called Ken and he came out the next day and offered to re-do the job (it was necessary!) so we had to be out of the house again for another three days. We told him the problems and he started right away to work on the sanding, and we specified we wanted a much higher quality, thicker finish on the floors. He and his brother re-did the floors, and they are much MUCH better now. There were a few places that were still problematic, puddles of varnish that had not been smoothed out, and we found spots of dried varnish on our porch table and bricks, which was very disappointing. Ken came out a third time to re-sand the puddled varnish, and I asked him to leave us some of the varnish so I could fix other spots myself, and he did so. He's a very nice man, and was pleasant to deal with, but with all the issues we had with the quality of work, I can't say I would rehire him.
