I am all for paying people for there time. I was quoted $350 for a civil engineer inspection and survey of my property, as I live on a hillside. As he walked around the house he gave me a few pointers and then told me that I he was still going to charge for coming out to my house and reduced his fee to $300.
Description of Work: He spent 15 minutes walking around my property telling my why he was not interested in doing the work, and the difficulties he had on job a few house down from me. I have nothing to show for my money other than his anecdotal opinion of my property.

The work quality seems to be exceptional and his team is also. Exception would be the dirt they dug out of the crawlspace and put around the house. The gas shutoff valve ended up buried. Will show up at your home without notice yet will not return phone calls or emails - requires second and third to get response. Did not follow estimate and did work not agreed to then asked for more money to finish job.
Description of Work: Seismic retrofit, fix piers/posts

I liked him, but the lack of follow-up was disappointing. I would not recommend for that reason. I ended up going with Larrabee and Associates, who I was very pleased with.
Description of Work: I had John Huck do a foundation inspection and he verbally priced out the job, but I never received a proposal after he stated he would. Like someone else here, if you can't get the proposal from someone... then that is a big red flag, and I don't want to try and "force" them to try and do a job. That said, he was knowledgeable about the work, but stated that it didn't require a permit when in fact it did (as I learned when I had the job done).($10,000.00)

I liked John Huckle and was prepared to go with the work, but I never received a quote after the inspection! I had to pay $300 for the inspection, and the understanding was that the funds could be put toward the work if I decided to go ahead. Since I never got the quote, I'm just out my $300! Huckle seems like an old hand who has been looking at San Jose foundations for years, and I received a good recommendation from someone else in the neighborhood. I have the sense they'd do a good job -- if I could get them to show up.
Description of Work: Huck Construction is both an engineer and a contractor. I received an inspection of my foundation.
