Wow, I can’t believe Sam has any good reviews. We bought a remodeled home that he did 2 years ago. Cabinets, flooring, counters, appliances and fixtures are all of the lowest quality. We figure he must have a huge warehouse filled with junk from China. We’ve had issues with the floor boards separating. The flooring manufacturer came out and it was clear in the report that he installed it incorrectly. His fix was a suction cup idea that pulled the wood together. That lasted 2 months and was a half a** job. Luckily we found a qualified person to remedy it. Think twice before using Sam Hernandez.

Sam and his team did a fantastic job. The project was completed ahead of schedule, with minimum disruption and to a very high standard. We are very pleased with our new bathroom and would definitely recommend H&J Renovations for any home improvement project.

I needed an entire home renovation on my 3 bedroom 2 bath 1100 sq-ft home. There was no structual change except for extending my existing shower by 12 inches. I used H&J Renovations and Design, and was dealing with Sam Hernandez. I selected this contractor because he was at the middle lower end of my 5 different contractor estimates, and his Angie's list review was good. Sam gave me an estimate of 4 months to completion. I moved out of the house during the renovation. The demolition started on 9/02/14, the last punch-list item was worked on 2/20/15.
 
About 90% of the work was completed after about 30 days. I waited another 5 weeks before Sam told me all work was completed and asked for a punch-list. At that time I talked to one of his workers who told me they have finished 3 other houses already.
My punch-list was very long. It should have been much shorter if they have done the work right the first time. It took them 3 go-around to complete or answer to the list and each time they said they completed all rework. Each time they came over to rework per the punch-list but always omitting some items and created new problems. To this day still a few items they said they cannot fix (one of which they cannot remove paint drops on bathroom tiles).
Sam also did not honor the contract. There was a line item to install a big mirror in one of the badrooms. Sam did not want to do saying contractors don't do that kind of things. He also installed the wrong kind of window in one of the bathrooms. I did not want to deal with him anymore so I agreed for him to credit me half the cost of this mirror. At this point, I just wanted him to get out and never come back. I will hire someone elso to finish the work including another window in bathroom. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR.

I had used H&J a couple of years ago to remodel my other bathroom and was impressed with them. So when it became obvious that I had to remodel my master bathroom, H&J was my 1st choice. I decided to expand my shower from the 32x32 it was to take some of the closet space from the adjoining bedroom. Sam gave me an estimate showing me what it would cost with and without this additional work. His crew took only 5 days to get the entire job done. Another company I had do an estimate said it would take 3 weeks. This would have been a problem for me since I cannot always work from home. Sam's workers showed up at 8 a.m. every morning and worked really hard all day long and cleaned up well before they left for the day.
I would definitely recommend H&J Renovations.

Master bathroom was teared down to walls and everything in it was replaced: floor, tiles, bathtub, vanity, heat lamp, toilet, medical-cabinet, mirrors, light fixtures, ceiling, and also added exhaust fan through attic.
Half bath was again teared down to walls and everything in it was replaced, tiles, vanity, mirrors, toilet, and light fixtures.
I had at least 4 contractors look at these baths. However, it was Sam who explained very well what changes will make sense from the a) comfort perspective, b) reliability of the design and c) $$$ sense.
My other requirement was to finish the job in 2 weeks as I am leaving in the house ..... H & J team, Rudy and Sam, delivered on time!!! My house was kept clean throughout the construction period.
Tiles person is really good, every single piece of tiles and backsplash is very thoughtfully placed and I have lot of edges in the bathroom. Each member of the team is very reliable, expert in his area and professional.

We were looking to remodel our kitchen but were hesitant about actually going through with a kitchen remodel since we've heard so many horror stories about dragged out and over budget remodels.  After interviewing a few contractors we decided to go with H&J and we couldn't be happier with our decision.  Sam and his crew were extremely professional, respectful, trust worthy, and very hard working.  The following are the most important reasons why we will recommend him to others:
Time - Sam estimated approx 4-6 weeks to get us back in our kitchen with possible minor items to finish.  We took that time frame with a grain of salt thinking we will probably have to add on another 1-2 weeks to what he said.  However, we got a fully functional kitchen back to use in 3 1/2 weeks with only some minor items to finish up.  He finished up the remaining minor items within the time frame as well.
Budget - There was no running over budget with Sam, we finished our kitchen within the exact quote he gave us. 
Cleanliness - They cleaned up after themselves and always left my house with an organized and put away garage and kitchen daily without me having to ask them to do so.  I have two little ones so having a cleaned off working area (no dangerous tools hanging around, loose nails, etc.) is very important for me.
Responsiveness - I have to admit I had a little hesitation with Sam prior to him starting our remodel due to his responsiveness.  He seem extremely busy and always took him a couple days to get back to me (prior to starting our remodel).  However, once we started our remodel he was very on top of everything and updated us daily with the progress of the remodel.  He was always available via phone or text and always returned our calls quickly.  So if you are considering Sam but are running into the same problem with him not responding as quickly as some other contractors please don't be discouraged because he is very responsive once the job starts.
Overall, our remodel experience turned out to be so much better (none stress) experience than we anticipated and we are so happy with the result. If you are looking for a honest reliable contractor definitely go with H&J.

Sam Hernandez and his crew designed, and was meticulous throughout our bathroom remodel. They had it torn out in 1 day and from start to finish it only took 10 working days. We were impressed with the neatness of his crew especially his tile guys. We also had the whole house repiped with copper piping and that only took 1 day. He turned a 40 year old bathroom with only a bath tub into a beautiful shower/bath combination and the tile work came out beautiful not to mention the beautiful glass door that shows off there awesome work. They were very reliable, clean and trust worthy. 
We are having Sam remodel our Master Bathroom next as we wouldn't go with anyone else!!

We were looking for a new kitchen on a very tight budget. I had contacted other companies before, and they flat out told us it could not be done. Sam provided us with a quote that was well within range and delivered. The kitchen looks great and is everything we could ask for. Three months later, we had a small problem (the faucet came loose). They came in and addressed the problem. Another small issue (crooked drawer about 6 months later) was also nicely addressed.
Sam and his crew are very professional and do great work. Bear in mind though that being on a budget, there are certain things that you'll might to have to do differently. For example, we shopped on our own for the tile and all appliances and had them delivered to us (we checked with the team though that they'd into the overall plan). Also, they are very busy, and it sometimes takes some time for them to respond to questions and issues, in particular via email. That being said, I would definitely hire them again (and might, as Sam recently provided me a quote for a bathroom).

I have to say Sam's and his team of workers did a great job of exceeding our expectations. Sam is very knowledgeable about what will and wont work in your design. He gave us great advice and direction towards the features that added the most value to our project without breaking the bank. His guys showed up and got to work on time. Its always exciting and a little scary to come home and see a bunch of trucks in front of your house. Sam was there personally to kick the project off and make sure that the plan we had put in place was being executed just the way we wanted it. We reviewed the scope of work and off they went. Gates were removed and in came the bobcat to make quick work of the re grading that removed several yards of dirt. The area was prepped quickly in just a few days and we were pouring concrete. The stamping and color came our great. We are so proud of the new concrete patio. It looks amazing. The pavers and fire pit were next and were completed just as quickly and are the new center piece of the entire yard. Sod and a small retaining wall were all that was left to complete this awesome project. The bathroom work occurred at the same time and was completed with the same level of attention to detail as the rest of the project. We could not be happier with our choice of H&J to perform this work. Sam knows the ins and outs of taking on this type of work. There will always be surprises when you start tearing things apart but Sam and his team always knew how to handle it while keeping cost in check. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy contractor. Thanks Sam.     

That was fine.  They were on time and they did decent work.  What they did was okay, there was a cupboard, there was a  hole in the drywall, and then the electrical outlet was broken, so they did okay in the bathroom, but they caused damaged around it.

Our service was great, we finished on time with only a few bumps in the road. We first had to take down a load bearing wall that divided the kitchen and the living room and put in a 24 foot header. They then pulled up the old kitchen flooring and matched the hardwood floor that we have in the rest of the house. All of the drywall had to be taken down, and they re-insulated and added new drywall. They put up the cabinets and countertops (which they built from slabs) and put up a backsplash. This all took about 8 weeks, which was around the original estimate. Considering we were camped out in our room for the duration, it went as well as I can imagine.

Sam is very professional and their job was completed perfectly, beyond our expectation. They finished all within a week !   We were positively surprised on their first day. They put plastic curtain sealed completely as dust barrier at area they are going to work, and floor covering as well. It was so nice to protect our furniture and all our belongings. Sam's team members are very professional to do their job, always coming on time. We asked this job as a try out for our up-coming bathroom remodeling. As a result, they could pass our test much further beyond our criteria. They are trustworthy. We will ask them our bathroom remodeling as a next project.

Initially met with Sam and showed him multiple design options for my bathroom.  After considering costs and possible return on investment, we agreed on one of the options.
Start to finish was approximately two weeks.  All of Sam's subcontractors worked together to get the job done as quickly as possible - but they did not cut corners.  They worked with me along the way, and if adjustments needed to be made, they did so without issues.  The job only required two minor change orders from the original estimate for a total, additional cost of $500 - well within a reasonable expectation considering the amount of work done and the age of the house (1947).
Sam was always in touch with me along the way, but I have to say that his subcontractors were extraordinary.  There was never a concern of "having to get Sam involved to correct anything."  They really function very well as a team of contractors, each making sure his specific job is completed in order for the next contractor to get his job done.
 
The finished product exceeded my expectations - PLUS Sam's crew did a great job of keeping things as neat and clean as possible.  All trash/by products were hauled away and bathroom was left in pristine condition.
I would highly recommend H&J Renovations.  I plan to use them to remodel the kitchen in the near future.

I contacted Sam regarding a bathroom model I wanted to do in my house.  Based on a perfect score on Angie's List, I decided to ask him for a quote.  I sent him a few pictures of the bathroom and he gave me an estimate via email and the price seemed reasonable.  Soon after, we met at my house to go over the details and to discuss any upgrades I may want.  Once, we had all the details hammered out, he provided an updated quote in a timely fashion and he was able to begin week approximately 1.5 weeks later.
The work began on a Monday morning and it included gutting the bathroom and installing a new tub/toilet along with new tile around the tub and installing a new vanity. From start to finish, the job took only 6 working days!  I was very impressed with the quality of work and how much time it took to complete.  I would highly recommend H & J to my friends and family

We were very pleased with quality and service of H&J Renovations.  They showed up on time, kept us informed of status along the way, worked on weekends to finish the work.  We ended up paying a little extra because our vanity area was larger as well some of the options we selected were outside of the deal scope, but H&J were very accommodating.

H&J were outstanding, and I highly recommend them.  They worked steadily throughout the duration of the project and finished on schedule.  All the workers were very capable, professional, friendly.  H&J communicated very well.  They were very responsive to any request we made.  The process for doing change orders was simple and reasonably priced.  H&J cleaned up the house conscientiously when they finished.

The project went exceptiionally well.  The entire project was completed in three weeks, which I consider phenomenal.  The crew and subcontractors were courteous and competent..  Sam stayed close to the project and always knew the status of the progress on the kitchen.   I would not hesitate to use the firm again for future remodeling projects.

The final cost was more than the original estimate but I asked for some upgrades in fixtures and had re-piping done and a roof leak fixed so that added to the cost. Sam was very professional and kept me informed throughout the project about what needed to be done and what the options were. His crew was professional and worked very hard.The got the whole job done in 4 days. It looks great!
I am very pleased with the job they did and felt the price was quite reasonable. I would highly recommend H & J and will likely hire them again in the future.

It went great. The job was completed on time and on budget which was a a big deal since our move was timed with the completion of the project. We moved some items in before the big move day and that was not a problem since the house was left in clean condition everyday after the workers left.
