We have seen both Dr. Van Sant and Dr. Bellinghausen and are happy with the care they give our cockatiel. We also took our foster bird to them. They are able to perform all necessary tests and give results promptly. They also sell healthy food and safe toys for all types of birds.

I really like the people and the care they give my bird. They also know exactly how to calm a bird down when they are being treated or if they are watching them. They are very knowledgeable in how to care for birds.

I have been taking my parrot, Merlin a Congo African Grey, to For the Birds since 1992. Dr. Fern Van Sant is very knowledgeable about both the medical and behavioral aspects of parrots and her technicians obviously enjoy their interaction with parrots. My usually reserved parrot will talk and flirt with the technicians so I know she is very comfortable with them. This visit I met Dr. Laura Bellinghausen and I was impressed with her as well. She was gentle but firm and talked to Merlin during the exam to reassure her. Dr. Bellinghausen really listened to my concerns and had good advice. I really enjoyed my visit.

Dr. Van Sant and her technicians seem to genuinely care about the birds and seem knowledgeable, but don't go there on a budget. I received an estimate of up to $500, and they exceeded that. They did actually manage to convert my stubborn parrot to pellets, but it took them two days longer than they expected.

The vet is great. She handles emergencies very well. She is so friendly and is really gentle with the bird. That's the only place I'll take my bird. She sure knows how to handle them.
