EVMAR MANAGEMENT INC

This company was a nightmare from the day the project started. We had the typical problems with the contractors not showing up when they said they would. We actually had to move out of our house during this construction. We found that they were not showing up and working on the house when they said they would be. In the end the job took twice as long as estimated and therefore we incurred extra expense for renting a furnished apartment. They cut corners constantly and we would have to fight with them to re-do their work. A great example is that they hired completely incompetent electrical subcontractors who screwed up the electrical in our house. We had to force them to bring in a more expensive electrician to fix everything. Another example is that they put lower quality electrical components in the wall - thank god my husband is an electrical engineer and caught them before they put the drywall up - once again we forced them to fix it. They actually told me that they do NOT make bamboo molding for bamboo floors and that they would install these cheap plain wood moldings instead. I kid you not, I drove over to a bamboo flooring showroom called them from the showroom and told them I was standing in front of bamboo molding and to get their buts over there and purchase some. The project was constantly like this - we had to check up on them constantly and then fight with them to "do the right thing". Thank god we had all the work done with a permit. The City of Santa Clara inspected and forced them to put a larger supporting beam into the floor. We had a different company put in our hardwood floors downstairs - the contractors that EvMar used were sub-par and our bamboo floors have gaps between the wall and the molding. Molding was never "finished" so there are gaps between the molding and the walls. Joint between the tile and hardwood looks terrible. They did not clean up well or protect our existing property well - there were a lot of scratches in our hardwood floors and dust everywhere. I would never hire these folks again. They bid too low and I am sure lost money on this project but it is their own fault.

This contractor is now located at 93 Devine St., San Jose 95110. This is a contractor to STAY AWAY FROM. We tried to be patient and understanding through delays rework and general "sloppiness" at the work site. The details could fill a page, but the final break came when the work slowed to a snail's pace, even though the weather was good, and some of the sub-contractors started to let us know they had not been paid. We have paid a number of the smallest subs. We were given credit memos by EvMar for these payments so we are now left with a handful of memos and an unfinished house. One lien has been filed on our property by a sub, who is absolutely within in his rights to do this. The amount paid for this work cannot be fully ascertained at present because much remains to be done as does much of the clean-up that we were promised. Pretty pleased. They moved a little slow, but they are doing a great job. I would rather them move slow, and do it right than move fast, and mess it up. Really professional, come when they say they will, and they also are worked with us on a budget plan.
