We?d thought about remodeling our kitchen for many years, but it seemed just too overwhelming a task. The contractors we?d met with didn?t click, or we just weren?t ready to commit. When we found Dan Wood of Classic, it felt right. I?d expressed my fears to Dan about tackling all the choices to be made. He said he?d help me every step of the way--and he did. He inspires confidence, is a talented designer and passionate about giving his clients something really beautiful. The Classic Kitchens three-man crew that worked our job?Tim, Sam, and Duane?did it all: gutting, framing, plumbing, electrical. They were always friendly, considerate, and in good humor. Even at the end of a long day they left the site clean. As the process went along we had many questions and concerns which were all answered promptly. I relied on Dan?s expertise throughout the project. When I had a difficult time choosing tile for the backsplash, he met me at the tile store and guided me to a decision. When I fretted over choosing a color for the quartz countertops, Jan Watson, Dan?s assistant, had me bring all my samples in (floor, cabinet, and counter) and she and Dan helped me with that decision. Jan also made sure we met the timelines for each decision we needed to make along the way. Costs we were responsible for, not part of the contract, included City of San Jose permit costs, all new appliances, plumbing fixtures, cabinet fixtures, new door to garage, pendant lights, and painting. We also incurred costs to move a wall back about ten inches into the living room so as to better accommodate appliances and 24-inch counters. (Moving the wall extended the project by about one week due to the City?s extra requirements for doing so.) Outside-of-contract costs totaled approximately $18,000. The project took about ten weeks, but our fabulous new kitchen was well worth it.
