We started looking for structure designer and/or architect early June 2013. Resuming the whole process was a hard decision. But Chris made it much easier by proactively contacting city plan check engineer about remaining issues, providing 3D pictures of the roof design and answered all our questions. The references all highly evaluated his work.
The city gave us permit pass notice two months after the day we signed contract with Chris. The original design took about 1 month (including trying avoid the design of original design for copyright concerns). There is one re-submittal and the plan passed. This is faster than I previously anticipated.
Although the construction project is not started yet. Just from the design, I am confident that the design will turn into a comfortable home for us and our two sons.
Chris's role in the whole project was not limited to architectural design, He also handled the communication with energy consultant for Title-24 and structural design with structure engineer Kent(from Sezen&Moon). We did not even get involved.
Price wise, I would say Chris is a bit expensive. But for a six digits project, it is a good idea to have a solid design.
We will definitely work with Chris if there is a chance in the future.
