The report was accepted by the city of Sunnyvale with no issues. We had two motivations us to use Bill's services: First, our tree contractor recommended him. Second, he was reasonably priced for the job. Sunnyvale allows a tree removal permit to be submitted with or without an arborist's report. If submitted with the report, the fee is reduced $110. Without a report, the city sends their arborist. We thought our tree would easily meet the city's requirements for removal, but we were concerned about whom the city would send (probably an unfounded concern in Sunnyvale, though there are plenty of non-arborist city inspectors outside Sunnyvale), and we wanted the report in hand before we started planning the tree's replacement. Bill was also much faster, and unlike the city scheduled a time in advance. As far as pricing, the other ISA arborists I called seemed not to write letters for straightforward cases often, and that was reflected in their pricing. We had a simple case and didn't need a full "tree survey". Bill provided the benefits of an independent arborist at a reasonable marginal cost (his $225 fee minus the city's $110 discount).
