It went great. Ben was willing to work with my doing some of the excavation and brick walkway removal in order to keep cost down. I found him consistently capable and honest in his dealings.

The repair is a success: no air is being sucked into the filtration system, and I'm not losing water as I did before.
The only reason I don't give Ben There Pool Repair an and quot;Aand quot; is that the crew who did the skimmer removal and replacement portion didn't do a thorough job of cleaning up after themselves, leaving a lot of loose concrete sand/gravel scattered all over my deck. They could have done a better job sweeping up, but they just left for me to do.
Ben Dorsey is a solid professional. He is knowledgeable and experienced, and has the array of necessary tools and high-tech equipment required to locate leaks. He explains what he's doing and why he's doing it. He's careful of and respectful of your property. He's a very busy guy at this time of year (summer), so you might have to be patient about getting an immediate response. The results are worth, though.

I thought the pricing was quite reasonable. He showed up promptly. I initially engaged him to do a far amount of repair work after he found the problem, but changed my mind and decided to do the work myself partly because I didn't want to spend money and partly because he got delayed on another pool job.

I had a mysterious leak in my pool that seems to pop up around every Christmas for the past 4 years. It would drop an 1and quot;-1 1/2and quot; of water a day, then seal itself up after a couple of weeks. Very weird. By trial and error, I had narrowed it down to my attached spa, but didn't know where it was leaking.
I had TWO professional leak detection companies to check the pool. I won't name names, but one of them is the largest in the San Jose area. Both companies I had hired could not find the leak.
This year when the leak came back (around Christmas), it didn't seal itself up. It just kept leaking. Having had bad experiences with the previous 2 leak companies, (there is little choice left as there's only a few leak detection companies in the area) I stumbled across Ben by accident net surfing. I called him up, and explained the problem and he said he was tied up at the time but he would call me back later in the week. Unfortunately, it's hard to nail down if/when he's going to call back and admittedly, I almost gave up. I did have to call a couple more times to get a date nailed down for him to come and look. I attribute it to being very busy and a one-man operation.
When I got in touch with him and set a time of 10:00, I received a knock on the EXACTLY at 10:00, so VERY punctual! I described to him what was going on and he spent two hours pressure testing all the lines, dye testing, etc and could find no plumbing leak. He tried really hard to find out what was going on and he was very pensive about it. He believed me that it was indeed leaking and was determined to find it as he doesn't like walking away from a problem. He told me to run the pump and watch it to see if any more water loss. I set up a bucket test in the pool and it lost over 1and quot; in 12 hours. I called him the next morning and told him what happened. He sounded genuinely upset and that he'd come out the next day to check other things that might be the problem.
Sure enough, he came out and spent another couple of hours looking. He dove in, dye tested and found the leak through the back of the spa light! He made the repair and no more leaks!
He doesn't like walking away from leaks. He takes his time to learn the pool and equipment and makes sure the problem is taken care of. Very honest, diligent and punctual.
