I hired ART to work on both my
home refrigerator, and our commercial HVAC unit. Over the course of
almost a year, he failed to correctly repair ANY unit that he touched,
and left every unit in worse shape than when he arrived.
After 9 years without needing service, the home frig needed gas added.
ART did this in such a way that it needed gas again a few months later.
And again, a few months after that. He convinced us that the only way
to resolve the problem was to replace the compressor. When it failed
again a few months after the new compressor was installed, I gave up and
brought in Toms Appliance for a 2nd opinion. Toms found that ART had
installed the WRONG COMPRESSOR for my unit. It cost more than $1000 to
undo the 'work' ART had charged $1500 for, and get the correct part in
the frig.
The commercial HVAC experience was even worse. Among other things, ART:
- Used the WRONG GAS to charge the system, damaging the compressor (had to be replaced, $2000+)
- 'fixed' the rooftop compressor, by REMOVING THE SIGHT GLASS. Interesting how this would prevent me (or any technician) from verifying the gas level in the system.
- repeatedly 'charged' the system with more (EXPENSIVE) gas, in such a way that it failed again within 6-12 weeks. What a racket!
I'm convinced, based on the physical evidence, and the statements of professionals who actually knew what they were doing, that ART was basically 'fixing' our problems in a way that guaranteed their failure, three to six months down the line. This set him up for a recurring revenue stream from unnecessary repairs and service calls.
Yes, we thought about suing ART, but we have a business to run. Use him at your own risk - you'll regret it at your leisure.
