Our water heater stopped working. I called PGand E who came and check the pilot and said the gas valve is broken. We just moved into the house two weeks ago and has purchased American Home Shield appliance insurance. We filed a claim online with American Home Shield and American Plumbing and Drain was assigned to work the order. Mario, I believe is the name, came on time. I was about to tell him about what PGand E said but he pretty much said he would do his own diagnosis. He worked for about an hour and was able to find the fault in the pilot assembly. He replaced the part and the water heater started working again. I asked him about the part being replaced. He said something I don't quite understand. He also pointed out some of our newly remodeled bathroom drain pipes are not installed according to code. While I appreciate he pointing it out, I also don't quite understand what he's talking about either. It could be his accent which I had a hard time understanding. He went to his truck and brought out the 2010 plumbing code book and flipped to the chapter concerning drain pipe, and showed me the paragraph. Even after I read the code, I still don't understand what he's talking about. I paid the $75 co-pay and he left. Overall, I think he does a good job fixing the water heater. But I just found his way of convening information to me a bit rough and hard to understand.

American Plumbing and Drain is one of the service providers that American Home Shield Home Protection Plan (AHS-HPP) calls upon for their policy holders' eligible repairs. The $60 represents the service fee that policy holders pay for a covered/required service.
Mario, the Owner of American Plumbing and Drain, came within the 2 hr. appointment window (having called me 30 minutes prior to arrival so I had time to get to the property), brought the required tools, had the technical knowledge, and promptly set to work to make the required repairs--one repair only took minutes. Another company--not provided by AHS-HPP--had given a $110 estimate to make that repair. The other company had also noted a potential problem with the water heater. Mario checked the water heater and discerned it was not failing--the temp setting was set too low, and he correctly set it. Mario is not a and quot;salesmanand quot;. He sets to work doing what is required. He is a full-service plumber from new installations to repairs, and is not limited to AHS-HPP work. When I asked him to provide an estimate for an upgraded water heater installation (50gal)--with permits, his price was very reasonable. I have an AHS-HPP on my personal residence, and I will ask AHS-HPP to send American Plumbing and Drain--if an eligible problem should occur to my plumbing system.

I actually wasn't here when he did the work but we've had him do work before here and at our church. My experience is that he does professional work in a timely manner. He doesn't seem to be out to gouge the customer. His prices are good. When I call him he comes as soon as he can. He is busy and usually comes within a couple of days.

Good and bad. The plumber was good. He claimed I had an illegal drain fitting that was causing a leak. To access the drain he had to cut a hole in the ceiling in the kitchen and I had to remove several cabinets and the microwave to accommodate this. This job was under a home warranty (AHS) but because the fitting was deemed "illegal", AHS would not cover the cost and I had to pay out of pocket. That was fine as I just wanted the leak fixed. Anyway, when the job was done I asked who was going to fix the hole in my ceiling. He said that they had drywall people to fix it. I called the home warranty company to set this up and they said that the plumber told them I had made the hole myself so I had to fix it. I was shocked as it was the plumber that made the hole to gain access. AHS tried to call the plumbing company to verify my story but the owner was extremely rude to them and said I was lying. AHS ended up believing me based on this guy's demeanor. AHS only gave me $88 for drywall repair.

He was very professional and came on time. He showed me why the shower head was clogging, and showed me how to clean it next time so I didn't have to call him in. I thought that was nice. He also suggested getting a better drain cover that could filter the hair that was clogging the drain in the future. I'd definitely recommend using them next time.
