Horrible Customer service and backed out of quote I received an estimate and accepted it but since I live in a condo I need HOA approval to move forward. After waiting a month, I received approval on the units and scope of work provided in the estimate. I let A-1 know I received approval and they sent someone out for final measurements. That evening I get a new quote, with completely different units and a major change in scope of work. They didn’t mention anything to me on these changes when they were here in person. This is a bit suspicious to me, it seems like they purposely mislead me. Somehow the price was the same for a less efficient unit with many added fees, including a crane for $900 I called to get an explanation and was told “you don’t need to accept the quote”. They said now they need a crane because it’s too difficult to move the unit through the stairway… $900. They also said they stopped selling the original unit I was quoted. This all seems like critical information to share since they knew I was waiting for HOA approval. I would need to resubmit based on different units and the need for a crane instead of using the stairs. Obviously they don’t care and didn’t want my business. Before writing this I tried to give them a 2nd chance by calling the CEO, no call back. Horrible customer service, backed out on the promised quote

Went very well. The appointment was made for the day after I called. The technician Danny arrived on the front end of the appt window and did a professional and efficient job of confirming a failed capacitor and replacing it. The air conditioner is fully functional again. Responsiveness, as well as time and cost to repair, are worthy of a big recommendation.

Professionally installed. Competitive price and offered a veterans discount. I would definitely recommend A1. A1 installed my Trane furnace 3 years ago. They did an excellent job then. I needed a brand new AC installed (I lived in Almaden for 20 years without one). Also got a bid from Valley heating. Valley never followed back up, while A1 sent the CEO Brad to my house to answer some extra questions I had. A1 also offered me an extra discount since I am a veteran (Thank you for supporting military/veterans!!). Installation of the Goodman AC took two days, but they couldn’t get the AC and furnace to communicate since different brands ( they should already know that in advance, but not going to downgrade my rating for it). They sent William out to troubleshoot and fix it on 3rd day (ideally total install should not exceed 2 days IMO). All appears to be working great. I would definitely recommend A1 for your heating and AC needs.

Furnace problem is intermittent: technician checked fan current (normal) and all key voltages. Furnace self-checks diagnose problem as 'failure to start'. I will monitor and identify conditions if it repeats again.

They did a great job

Came to do an annual maintenance but our furnace was already quite old and finally needed to be replaced. They were able to come back the next day and install it no problems.

DON’T GIVE A-1 HEATING AND COOLING YOUR BUSINESS Groupon had an offer for $51 air conditioner maintenance from A-1 Heating and Cooling. The tech looked at the A/C unit and said it was fine. (He didn’t even turn on the unit) I asked if he was going to do anything and he said that as long as it was not leaking, there was nothing to do. He did apply some tape to an exposed wire and left. A week later, when we turned on the unit for the first time this year, the fan was not turning. At 7:30am, I called A-1 Heating and Cooling and left a message explaining the situation. I mentioned that I would like some kind of discount on labor, but would be willing to pay for all parts. No one called me back so I called again at 8:45am. The lady on the phone said that Melissa was not in yet and would call me back. It was early afternoon and still no call, so I decided to take $51 loss and give my business to a competitor. The new company arrived within hours and said the capacitor was bad and replaced. I asked their tech what is done for a normal PM and he listed 8-10 things that should have been checked…the capacitor being one of those things. I am so disappointed in A-1 Heating and Cooling. I am not sure if the tech’s less than professional attitude was because of the Groupon price or if this is how they do business. This company took advantage of my time and money. It has been over 24hours and still no call from A-1 Heating and Cooling.

Crews were very neat and professional. I was particularly concerned about the hauling up of old deteriorated ducts and insulation from a crawlspace entry point clear at one end of the house. Even though no asbestos removal was required, they prepared a floor to ceiling plastic "tunnel" from front door through hallway to back bedroom and crawl space and were very tidy. They were also very considerate of the fact there is an invalid in the house, and handled their scheduling, and arranged for adequate heat during this winter period, to accommodate our needs. The new furnace is a great improvement; much more quiet; and the paperwork and inspections for a substantial energy saving rebate were executed and the rebate obtained. A total of THREE inspectors including the city inspector, passed the system with flying colors. The foreman on the job, "Francisco" was excellent. I was very satisfied with this company and would recommend them.

I bought this furnace tune-up service from A-1 Heating and Cooling through Angie's List. Short version: I paid $49 for a 3-4 minute tune-up service after rescheduling of appointment couple of times by them. I felt like majority of different tune-up items mentioned in the Angie's list ad were not performed. Felt like a major rip-off. Detailed version: I know, I have an older but working furnace. Thought of doing tune-up so that it can work efficiently and just for standard maintenance. I had specified this at the time of scheduling appointment and had said that "I know you will recommend replacing the furnace, but I just want a proper furnace tune-up at this time". First, they had to cancel my appointment since the technician called-in sick. -- No problem. I scheduled for next week between 10-1. But, Technician was running late. He called me around 1 to reschedule to 3pm. So, I had to wait in my home till then. That's okay. Next, as soon as the technician came in, his first comment and body language was to change the furnace - typical of what I expected. It seems that's what this furnace tune-ups deal are for them to convince you to replace furnace. Even then, we continued. I already had installed the new filters. The main thing he did was to change my placement of filter. (my placement was not incorrect, but just different due to the design of the furnace). In any case, other than that, he checked if the temperature was rising after turning on the furnace. (I felt he was surprised and disappointed that my furnace was working). Then, he opened up the furnace cover and co-incidentally I got a phone call right at that time. My phone call lasted for exactly 2 minutes and by the end of my phone call, he already finished the tune-up in the furnace and had closed the furnace cover. I CAN'T believe that all that was needed for tune-up was done in those 2 minutes. When, I called their office, they also gave same reply "All was done". In my opinion, this furnace tune-up service was a rip-off. Before this disappointment, I had told the technician that I will consider replacing my furnace and A/C next year and requested a quote from them which obviously they won't contact me about now. But, now I know, I WILL NOT be using A-1 Heating and Cooling.

Bill listened to our input and offered suggestions. We had estimates from other companies which suggested placing the AC unit where it would block our walkway and sprinkler, but was convenient to install. Bill gave us another option. He also suggested an additional 8 inch duct in our family room for improved cooling and heating. Juan and Francisco were very easy to work with during the installation. They worked with us and let us choose. Melissa and Christina spent a lot of time solving a problem with the Trane Warranty due to both Trane's website and also their call center employee who did not understand CA warranty law.

Got a call that my appointment was never scheduled. I gave my credit card number but they said they don’t have any record in their schedules

The technician, Maurice, was professional and personable. He arrived on time and did a very thorough job. Answered my questions. I need to get a new thermostat and I'm definitely going to call to have Maurice come back to do that work for me.

When my 30 year old Pancake Heating/AC unit stopped working I called A-1 Heating and Cooling. They were very prompt at sending out their technician. My old unit was completely out, and the coolant was very leaky. The technician suggested that I replace the unit. I decided to go with it and since I was in hurry to get it installed, they managed to squeeze me into their schedule and sent their installation team within a couple of days. The install job was pretty complex, given it was a pancake unit in an apartment. The technicians were very knowledgeable and got it done on time as promised. Their technicians are usually on time and arrive within the first hour of the window that is provided. Their on-call customer support team is also very responsive and accommodative of any last minute changes.

A-1 replaced my furnace in in a timely and professional manner. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves and worked efficiently. The deal they offered was great and I would certainly use them again.

The work was completed to my satisfaction. However, concerning price, the Angie's list offer was for 2 hours but I did not have enough repairs to be done for 2 hours. Thus, I ended paying more because of the offer being set for 2 hours. Moreover, the technician informed me that their regular charge per hour is much higher and that normally (without the Angie's list special offer) they will charge in addition for the travel time to my home in Portola Valley from San José. This is the reason I rated the price "C."

Terrible-but I am not blaming the technician but rather, the company. It was a bait and switch tactic. Indeed I have an older furnace but I was led to believe that it was in imminent danger of “dying” with a ragged fan belt and oil leak. I was “encouraged” for a week thereafter to get a new furnace through them. I had a second opinion and despite the age of the furnace it doesn’t need to be replaced. This is clearly a tactic of this company.

The installation went very well. The two installers knew exactly what to do and we are happy with the entire process. The crew was professional, on time l and kept the work area clean. They also spent time explaining how the system works. We definitely would recommend their work.

They never showed the first time I made the appointment. I called 1/2 hour after the time frame for the visit. They didn't have my appointment in their system. They had changed to a new calendar and my appointment was lost. I rescheduled for 3 days later. They didn't show up. I called and they said their system was down. I asked them to call the technician and he said he knew nothing of my appointment on his schedule. I will not ask them to come again.

The technician removed the front covers of the furnace and took a look to see the condition of the furnace. The technician suggest the asbestos duct should be replaced and the furnace has some holes on the heat exchangers and also suggest the furnace needs to be replaced. I did inquire the cost of replacement and he wrote out an estimate. I asked if he can fix the other furnace but said he had to go to another appointment. When I setup the appointment lady from the office told me that there will be 2 hours for each furnace but the technician only spent 2 hours total. At the end both furnace had no service done with the front cover off on the ground and we are stuck in the cold during the winter with a $14,000 estimate for 30 days. I decided to repair it myself because the other tenant is a 92 year old lady who was constantly feeling very cold. I want my money back from the coupon I paid to Angie's list which I gave to to the technician as payment.
